My new Garmin Fenix 8 died after just one week!

I've been experiencing frequent, unexpected reboots with my new Garmin Fenix 8 Solar (47mm). These have occurred during various activities, such as saving workouts, under the shower or using the map etc..

While the Fenix 8 Solar is undoubtedly impressive, with its stunning MIP display, it seems that the software (or potentially hardware) is still in need of refinement.

Unfortunately, my watch has now completely failed. After a recent reboot, it became unresponsive. Even when plugged into a power source, it only briefly comes back to life before shutting down again. I've tried various troubleshooting steps, including forced restarts, but to no avail.

I'm disappointed to have to return the watch under warranty, especially after investing significant time in its setup and troubleshooting.

I believe that beta testers who contribute to improving Garmin's products should be rewarded with discounts on future purchases. After all, we're dedicating our time to help make these devices even better.

  • I second this, excluding the last sentence. I sadly have to correct it to "dedicating our time to develop it in such a way that it actually works in some way."

  • By chance was one of your issues a black/blank screen?  I push buttons and it vibrates like it’s on but can’t get the screen to activate.  Green light sensors are on and flashlight works so it has power.

I am sorry to hear you are having this issue. For this, there are a few initial steps I would recommend trying.

    • Clean the contacts on the back of the watch and cable. For this, we recommend using rubbing alcohol.
    • Try connecting with another outlet, including a wall outlet and computer port.
    • It can also be beneficial to try another cable. (If need be, you may need to contact Garmin Product Support to retrieve a replacement)
    • Once connected to power, leave this connected for at least 1 hour. Then try pressing and holding the Power/Light button.
    • If there is no response, I would next recommend trying a factory reset. You can leave the watch connected to power while trying this:
    1. Ensure the watch is powered off.
      • You may need to hold LIGHTfor up to 30 seconds to turn the watch off.
    2. Press and hold BACK and START/STOP.
    3. Press LIGHT to power the watch on while holding these two buttons.
    4. After the first beep release START/STOP.
    5. After the second beep release the remaining button.

If there is no change, the device will likely need to be replaced. For this, I would recommend contacting Garmin Product Support.
