Ideal Way To Track Health Stats While Cycling - Have Fenix 8 + Edge 1050 Cycling Computer

Hi, just a quick question as I'm new to the Garmin ecosystem. I have an Edge 1050 for my cycling computer and a Fenix 8. When I am cycling, what is the best approach to make sure my health stats stay updated? Things like body battery, training readiness, endurance score, recovery time, etc. are important to me and I am not sure if I can just use the cycling computer and have that file sync in Garmin Connect and then update all of those metrics.

So best to record on both and then delete one? Keep both? Which one to delete? I saw conflicting information and nothing recent, so any guidance is greatly appreciated.

  • I’m in your shoes. I record all of my activities on the watch. I use the Edge as my Heads Up Display for in ride stats and navigation. At the end of my ride, I don’t save the ride on my Edge. If I did, there would be a double count in Garmin Connect.

  • I too have an 8 with a 1050, and a HRM Pro.

I use the 1050 with the HRM Pro to record the activity. It would seem that almost everything is recording. The activity has everything, but the HR on the watch for the duration of the even is not right. It's not even close to accurate. HRM gives me around 140 BPM, but the watch is recording 80-90 BPM. This can mess up your daily HR graph, and it has messed up calories for the day. Sometimes it has the calories from the event (recorded on the edge) and other times, it has the calories from the watch. It's confusing, and not consistent.

The HRM is connected to my Edge, my 8 and my phone.

My 8 is my primary wearable, and primary training device.

I have not tried setting the Edge to the primary training device, but I think now, that would be the solution.

  • Or as Kstate suggests, record on both, but delete the one from the edge. For that I'd also have to connect the Cadence, Power and speed sensors to the watch.

  • Physio True-Uo will port most, but not all, statistics recorded on the Edge over to the watch trhough Garmin Connect. But I think that intensity minutes and active calories can get screwed up. I record on both devices, but discard rather than saving on the Edge once I am sure the ride has recorded on my watch.

  • I have all of my sensors including my HRM Pro connected to by Edge and Watch at the same time. Like I said, I have the Edge for Navigation and Heads Up Display so, I am not distracted by trying to look at me watch while I am riding.

  • mcalista, That's exactly what I do for the same reasons as you.

  • I think I will try that my next ride.

  • That worked perfect.

    Indoor ride on Tacx trainer

1050 connected to - HR, Trainer (power, speed, trainer control), Cadence

Fenix connected to - HR, Cadence, Speed, Trainer (power only)

Started ride on watch, started ride on 1050. 1:08 and 20 miles later, stopped watch, ensured watch had the ride, stopped ride on the 1050 and deleted it. The only oddity that I noted was that the watch had about 0.2 miles further distance, so either my speed sensor, or my trainer has a mild calibration issue, so I will have to look into settings for that.

  • I have the Fenix 8 and the 1050, true up has been working perfectly until the last update. We should have to be doing work a around for Garmin's top featured equipment.
