problem with connecting Engo 2 (ActiveLook)

Hello, I have a problem with connecting Engo 2 (ActiveLook) glasses to Garmin Fenix 8 (FW 11.89) - I did everything according to the instructions, but the glasses are not displayed in the data field and do not show data. It connected to the Garmin Edge 1050 without any problems.

  • “Garmin Fenix 8’s current software doesn’t support the ActiveLook data field yet. A fix from Garmin is on the way with an upcoming update. (no date confirmed)”

I bought the watch when released, but it’s been back in the box for almost two months now while I patiently wait for this software update from Garmin. For now I continue to use my old watch as I don’t want to do my runs and cycling without my Engo 2 glasses. Come on Garmin release a fix for this.

  • Same here, Garmin taking soooo long to fix that!!!

  • Any news from Garmin on how this firmware fix is going?

  • Maybe you should ask ActiveLook what exactly the bug is. I do not see any recent bug reported by the ActiveLook CIQ app developer, on the IQ Developers forum. If they tell you what the bug is, it might be possible to check it out.

  • Thanks trux, I can only assume Activelook are already in direct contact with Garmin.

The note I posted a picture of above has been on the app download page since shortly after the Fenix 8 was released, and the latest version update log (from just a few days ago) has the following:

    “V1.0.46

    • Remove support of Fenix 8 while waiting for Garmin firmware fix”

From trying to use the Engo glasses myself, I know they form a connection with the watch, but once an activity is started, the data fields don’t appear. I can only assume the connection protocols are somehow different with the Fenix 8, I certainly haven’t had a problem with my previous watch or using a Garmin Edge and the glasses.

  • In your place I would ask the developer of the app what exactly the bug is, and whether he reported it to Garmin. The last bug report I see from him, is from 4 years ago, and it was actually not a bug. So without knowing what the bug is, we cannot give you any news whether the bug is fixed or not.

The question also is whether there really is a bug in the firmware, or whether the developer has a problem compiling an older app with the latest SDK (happened to me too, but the fix had to be done on my side). I would ask him, and try to get some details. Since we do not know what bug he means, it is somehow pointless to ask here on the user forum, whether it was fixed.

  • In the latest beta 13.12 the glasses finally started connecting and working normally, now the developer needs to enable compatibility with Fenix 8 for Activelook apps

  • Hi Iurii_UA,

could you possibly explain how you managed to connect the glasses to Fenix 8? Thanx

  • If you are handy with programming tools the procedure to get it working:

    1. Join beta program

    2. update fw

next steps require a solid background in building software

    3. clone the source

    https://github.com/ActiveLook/Garmin-Datafield-sample-code

    4. Download and install tools, sdk, and device definitions

    5. Restore fenix8 to manifest and tinker with scripts to get the program to build

    6. Connect fenix8 with usb

    7. find the built .prg file and side-load it to the fenix8 internal storage GARMIN/APPS
