Massive battery drain after activity with version 11.89

This was listed as fixed in the release notes and I had never experienced this before. After an hour GPS activity, the watch didn't sync but I had not cell service and thought it had something to do with that.  An hour or so later I looked at the battery percentage and it had dropped 30% doing nothing other than normal daily wear activities!

I restarted the watch, and it finally did sync and stopped the massive drain.  It's obvious that this major bug was not fixed as listed.

This rollout has got to be the worst I've seen with Garmin and I've owned   the Fenix 3HR, 5, 6, and 7!

  • I’m experiencing a daily battery loss of over 10-12% on the 11.89 software version (Fenix 8 Solar 51 mm), even without GPS activities and while using purposely only the built-in watch face. I encountered a similar issue with the Tactix 7 sveral weeks ago, but it was recently fixed with a new update.

  • Hello, I am sorry to hear you are having this issue. For those of you, concerned with the battery draining too quickly, I would like to help investigate this further. I will reach out to you via Private Message to collect the details of this experience.

  • Hello, I have the same issue. upgraded software to the newest version, it worked for maybe 5 days normally, but when i connected my watch with Stryd, my battery loss in one day is around 50% :(.

  • Same here, after using activity with satellite. Then start battrry drain!

  • Sounds familiar to the issue that was fixed on Fenix 7 two weeks ago:

Fixed potential increased battery drain after having done an activity with incident detection enabled.“

  • Given that excessive battery drain is a global problem, there's clearly something wrong everywhere and not just with individual users. It's simply happening, and we're requesting the fastest possible fix, since each of us who bought the Fenix 8 paid a considerable amount of money for it, and for that, we deserve a flawless device. I've been buying your products for many years, but I've never experienced anything like this before. I trust you and hope that you'll sort it out in the coming days and everything will be fully functional. Excuses are not appropriate in this case.

  • Hehe, it's also the other way around. My former Fenix 7 sucked my fully charged Stryd empty in about 3 days. Not a single time, but repeatedly. Somehow it kept the sensor connection active after the activity...

  • the issue that was fixed on Fenix 7 two weeks ag

Still not fixed in every case, still much rambling and not just over there!

I did, too, so much that I ordered an Fenix 8 Solar even before the live Event started. But due to delays I had the chance to observe the quality situation here in forums and it got me so far to cancel the order. It took me to loose trust and I eventually decided to leave Garmin for good and switch over to, well, other watches.

In Fenix 7 this problems were reported at least during beta for 18.xx, so they are definitely known for around 3 months. AND NO, THEY WERE NOT FIXED. I had to charge Fenix 7 Solar every 4-5 days, with just 2 hours of tracking and smart watch mode without much use .

    Just ranting, good luck

  • Unfortunately, it looks like I'll have to return the watch that cost a considerable amount of money and buy something that works for half the price. This is really scandalous!

If you have already left Garmin for good, then why continue to post here?

Especially perplexing to me why you chose to post in this forum as you have never even owned a fenix 8 Series watch...
