I am looking at the 47mm Solar F8 and it's 1.5mm thicker than the AMOLED version. Any reason?

The solar panel and MIP screen combination is a bit thicker then an AMOLED screen. That's why.

However, AMOLED displays can be as thin as almost a paper. Back part is larger than the display itself, so they require a larger bezel around the display.
Solar panel seems to be very tiny in fact.
There seems to be some empty space between the display and the motherboard. That can be decreased maybe but I'm not sure how much is that distance.
