Fenix 8 AMOLED frozen on blue triangle

During the middle of my 160km race last weekend, my watch bricked — I am furious! Here I am, 5 days later, and all I see is the blue triangle of death.  It comes and goes — either I see a black screen or the blue triangle.  I can’t turn the watch off to reboot — it simply pops up with the blue triangle again.  I’ve tried to reset, but it never beeps when holding the three buttons — it only shows the blue triangle. Please advise.  I am beyond frustrated at this point.

  • Hello Garmin Support — any suggestions, any ideas?  I’m still looking at the blue triangle of death….

  • Hello Garmin Support

You don’t contact Garmin Support in these forums. Make contact through their website.

  • 100% inaccurate. They are very helpful over the phone. Maybe not on a Sunday, but they will definitely help you if you call their service #. Are you not in the US?

  • Contact Garmin support via chat or phone. Exact same thing has happened to me a few weeks ago. Sorry to say, but your watch is bricked for good and needs replacing.

  • Thank you, everyone! I was really hoping Garmin Support answers in this forum; didn’t realize they don’t.  I opened a ticket per email vie the service page of the Garmin website a few days ago, so hopefully I’ll hear from them tomorrow (Monday).  Otherwise I’ll give them a call. (I’m not in the US, so I’m hoping their German support is offered in English as well!)

  • I recently encountered a similar issue with my 51mm AMOLED Fenix 8. Two days ago, while completing a 120km trail with course navigation and turn notifications enabled, the watch suddenly displayed the 'blue triangle of death' screen approximately 30 hours into the activity. It seemed to enter a restart loop for about five minutes, which was longer than the typical soft reset. At that moment, I thought the watch might be permanently bricked, but fortunately, it rebooted and resumed the activity in a paused state.

This experience has left me apprehensive about using the watch for my next ultra-distance event.

  • Unfortunate. This used to happen to me with early firmware on the Fenix 7X. It would crash and get stuck during reboot until plugged in to wall power.

  • Hello. I am sorry to hear you are having this issue. To see if you can get past the Blue triangle, I would recommend trying a reset with these steps:

    1. Ensure the watch is powered off.
      • You may need to hold LIGHTfor up to 30 seconds to turn the watch off.
    2. Press and hold BACK and START/STOP.
    3. Press LIGHT to power the watch on while holding these two buttons.
    4. After the first beep release START/STOP.
    5. After the second beep release the remaining button.

If this is still not moving past the Blue Triangle, I would recommend reaching out to Garmin Product Support.

  • I recently encountered the same problem with my Fenix 8 51mm Amoled on software version 11.89. For two days I tried everything. Contacted suport just to find out that in order to benefit from warranty you have to return to the country where the watch was purchased, which in my case is imposiible for the next 10 months. Finally in desperation and by accident I managed to reset it. Try this maybe it helps.

    1. Turn watch off by holding the LIGHT button then relese.

    2. After about one minute press the LIGHT button to pwer the watch on.

    3. When the "Blue triangle of death" appears PLUG THE CHARGING CABLE connected to a wall charger and leave it like this for about 5 min.

    4. After 5 minutes press and hold START/STOP and BACK at the same time.

    5. After the first vibration relese START/STOP and after the second vibration release the BACK button

It worked for me, wiping up everything except custom maps and starting from new.
