Navigation Notifications explained

Hey Guys,

I want to clear some little details of the, now working, navigation notification and I'm hoping somebody could help me.

  • So if you start navigation you go to route settings an turn "guidance alerts" on. So from now on you get vibration notifications if turned on.
  • You will also get an alarm (3 rings) with every turn if you turned "alert tones" on under the focus mode - activity - sound & vibe setting.
  • Now it gets interesting. If you go to the settings activities - e.g. mtb - audio output and set it on "watch", you'll get the turn announcements via voice on the watch.
  • but if you set the audio output on "connected device" you won't get the navigation announcements on the phone, but you'll get the round alarms ever kilometer or the pace alarms via voice (voice alerts).
  • Also under the routing settings there is a " voice alerts" setting, but I don't know what it does. It doesn't seem to change anything.

I hope somebody figured out the whole thing with navigation and guidance alerts and can explain it to me. I'm new to Garmin navigation watches.

    That voice alert setting gives you via earphones, phone or watch, whatever you choose turn by turn audio alerts. 

    Example: in 50 meters turn to the right, when you arrive you ear turn to the right , and after that you get an alert of your next turn. If you want voice alerts following routes you have to enable voice alerts and choose how do you want to get,from connected devices (earphones or phone) or from the watch. Hope this helps

    Could you please tell me where I can find the setting for voice alerts during navigation in a running activity? I haven’t seen that option.

    When you select the course in the running profile in the bottom of the screen you see more,tap on more and that opens the settings,you go to route settings and enable everything there. After that you will have the voice alerts on the running profile and trail running. Probably I all the sports you have navigation,but i only tested on this two profiles

    Thanks for the help! I find that really interesting, cause it seemed to me, that the voice alert setting from the focus mode "activity" also apply.

    Also, the voice alerts only work on the watch or via headphone directly connected to the watch. You can't get voice alerts from navigation thru your phone. At least it doesn't work for me.

    Did a 13K run with connected phone (for music) yesterday, and turn by turn audio alerts from the phone worked fine. 11.89 software version.

    Thanks for the clear explanation!

    Still one question:
    Is it possible to set the warnings. I read that som people get first message at 70m or 50m before a turn,
    I only get it relatively late, about 20 meters, which is actually 15m.
