Is Fenix 8 really that bad?

Hi guys!

I was about to order Fenix 8, but that seems to have quite many issues based on user complaints. That's a beautiful watch but I'm not sure if I'm brave enough to let my Epix pro go for more buggy device. Those of you who have Fenix 8 as daily driver - is that usable?

Thanks!

  • 'I'd imagine the screen jumping to workout's exercise list is still present"

Actually no. It does the right thing now. Much better

  • I'm using the F8 without problems.  I'm not using it to navigate.  Previously had Venu 3, Fenix 6 and 7.

Will be trying out locations this week with my Xero X1i.  I've read that it doesn't work, but it's in the manual for the F8 so I'll give it a go.

  • Wait, they removed the backup/restore function after it was only recently added to the F7 etc?

  • They sure did. I can only presume it is because the old UI F7 and prior is not compatible with the new UI.

  • Well...that definitely ruined my already slim chance of buying another garmin watch. Already left their so-called 'beta' after 4 years in it. Guess my Epix Pro will be my last one.

  • I previously used the epix Pro (Gen 2) – Sapphire Edition 51mm as my primary watch.

For my use the Fenix 8 51mm Sapphire Edition AMOLED watch is working perfectly for my fitness workouts on my stationary bike. Bluetooth transmission of data is working better and connects faster. GPS Tracking has been working great and is very accurate.

The new UI takes a minute to get used to, the build is great and yeah there are some bugs, but it's not a dealbreaker as I am sure they will be fixed soon. The bugs I encountered are mostly niceties like the weather APP crashed when adding a 3rd location. And I noticed when the watch switches "Focus Modes" into Sleep mode schedule at midnight the clock jumps ahead an hour and then goes back to the proper time 1 minute later.

I like the new UI, it's more logical with the layout. The new buttons are great, I honestly don't notice a tactile difference.

If I noticed anything else that was a dealbreaker I would put my epix Pro (Gen 2) back on my wrist.

I guess you could always wait for the updates that will address all of the other bugs that users have encountered.

  • No. It’s just that the watch was released before backup/restore was ready. Noted in one of the other threads complaining about the watch.

  • Okay, that's good. But still, the mip fenix 8 is still not even available for sale in Canada, so...not buying another garmin after my epix pro dies, which it already has, as I just got a replacement after touch screen issues and a fried altimeter after I never swam in the ocean, only in pools, and always rinsed my watch after every single exercise. So...done with bad quality expensive hardware and even worse software.

  • The biggest problem for me right now is that it can't go into cold water without crashing, and it's happening to a lot of people! The product was clearly rushed to market, like everything else these days. I wonder how they even passed the EU regulations for diving instruments.
