Fenix 8 Amoled / low brightness in sun

On AOD, while the watch adjust the light perfectly in most conditions, however under the sun the brightness is too low. I use the watch with gesture OFF, and under the sun I can't even see the time, unless I press the light button.

  • I have the same issue.  Very difficult to read in bright sunshine.

Gesture OFF on AOD ? Are your serious ?!
No Amoled display will be easy to see in the sunlight from Epix to Fenix 8 if you turn off the gesture which wakes up the amoled...
You should have bought the Solar version.

  • Yes, why does it seem strange to you? I came from Fenix 7 pro, and I made the screen settings to act similar as the MIP. I don't like the gesture option because in low light conditions the watch lights like a toy when you move your hand. Anyway, in most cases I am very satisfied, the screen is better now in most scenarios, even for outdoor activities.

I use a watchface through IQ store with full AOD details. Watchface is active all the time with very good brightness in most light conditions, the only disappointment is under the sun, the brightness is really dim. It should be a bit brighter.

    Good luck.

  • Maybe it’s light sensor not engaging in full. I felt something similar switching from epix pro. I have had feeling that epix pro is brighter under direct sun, maybe it’s software related issue.

  • Yes I think so it's a software related issue, because overall the screen light sensor works perfectly, but under the sun is really dim on AOD.

  • In my case the switching from MIP to Amoled was very smooth, I don't think I will return back to MIP again. Moreover, if Garmin fix a bit the brightness under the sun on AOD, it will be perfect.

  • I am not sure much can be done I came from Tactix series C and D Solar MIP that were amazing during direct sunlight however I wanted a more elegant-looking watch with AMOLED so I opted for the Fenix 8 Titanium-Saphire (chestnut leather strap) version. In direct sunlight, I have to shield the screen to be able to read the screen especially if the watchface isn't high contrast (which usually looks plain but works better) . In other hand, I noticed that in dark environments or in dark rooms the AMOLED isn't bright enough it kinda brightens up a bit but overall I would rate it low or dimmed to much.

  • Which watch face are you using?
