Slow press on Start button - no feedback (doesn't work)

If I'm trying to press the start (right top) button slowly it has NO reaction at all, so this button works if I'm using a force and quickly push it. Otherwise, it's doing nothing, no vibro, no functional response.

Should I return this watch back to the dealer and get my money back or is this something that the guarantee will fix?

Fenix 8 AMOLED. Bought 4 days ago.

  • A gentle pressure just works perfectly for me. I'm afraid there is something wrong with your button.

  • Try setting the hotkey function to a long press of this button, maybe it's just a sw bug. I set garmin pay to long press, if I press slowly, it still works.

  • Already set the additional shortcut on it and it's not working too. It looks like it doesn't detect the push action if it is slow or gently

  • Return it and ask for replacement. It will not get better and there is no reason why you should not have fully functional buttons on such expensive device.

  • I have the same on my f8 with bottom left button. It works like 6-7 times out of 10 when I am using the watch and when I purposely press it slowly the watch doesn't register the click.

  • You are correct.  If you press the button very, very slowly, it will not actually recognize the press.  However, even a lazy, consistent press will activate it.  For mine, you would have to really try to get it to depress but not recognize it.  It's kind of like if you've ever tried to walk incredibly slowly to not activate a motion sensor.  It's possible but any realistic scenario works fine.  Perhaps your watch doesn't have the response that it should.

  • When try to press button extremely very very slow, until fully pressed approx. in 10 seconds, doesn't really notice it, but in a 5 second process it already works fine. But seriously, why is this a problem? I've never pressed anything so slowly in my life :)

If you press it like any other device in the world, it's not a mistake, it's user error.

  • You realise that an induction coil (of which these buttons are) relies upon movement of a magnet through a coil in order to generate a voltage which is then detected as a button press?

Moving that bar as slowly as possible means youre probably not generating a voltage large enough to register as a button press.

This isn't your regular contact switch style button. There's nothing wrong with your watch you're just using it really oddly.

I'd recommend swapping the F8 for the F8E if you enjoy clicking buttons as slowly as possible as this still has the old button variety.

I've never pressed anything so slowly in my life :)

Some people are sloth-like. Let's not judge.

  • I totally agree with you, and the problem is only with one button (top right). If we're talking about how fast I'm pushing the button - 0.5 sec just not really hard, I noticed it when click doesn't happen, for the first time I thought that this was a lag or smthg.

Only one button behaves like this, all others work well at any speed and with any power.

    - I returned watches back to the store and asked for a refund. Gonna use another brand or will find another solution for my needs

  • This is not an issue with a function that executes after a click, the issue with the click itself - it does not happen. As a result, not a default event neither a long press event will not be executed.

I returned it back to the store. Not the best start with Garmin. First watches for 4 days.
