No routing in walking activity (straight line)

It's the same for me. And very annoying.

The Routing option in the activity menu also has far fewer options.

I particularly needed this function when walking, as I planned the routes for all other activities in advance.

But "walking" was always for me for the case "I'm visiting somewhere and want to take a relaxed walk" - i.e. spontaneously finding my way around unfamiliar areas.

That's obviously useless. Garmin has ruined it.

Side note: the Straight Line is the Direct Route. It gives direction and distance.
You got the Direct/Route in the navigation menu "...More" just under the "Go To" when you about to launch it.
You should able to choose between Direct and Route.

But in my experience this is not reliable on 11.60.
Once Direct has been chosen in an activity it is staying in Direct whenever you choose Route again.

Also I got sooo much Calculation Errors in Route that I have decided to put Walk in Direct and Hike in Route.
Now I mainy use Direct, even in unknown or unfamiliar areas. The calculation is immediate and when using export from Apple Maps or Garmin Explorer, it is really useful to orient myself and find my way.

Conclusion: I really hope Garmin Engineers will focus their attention on the Navigation issues. Route is not reliable in so many ways. I hopeGarmin-Laurie will report it with all the bugs we have been reported so far.

In my case the walking activity is configured to use maps. But I have tried "using routes" as well

Lets see an example: I go to stored locations and choose a near place (dentist) located at 500m. If I choose "walking activity", first it draws a direct line, nice, but then keeps for ever "Calculating..." See pic

But it I choose "hiking" it draws the direct line no more than a second and then draw the route. And the configuration in walking and hiking activities are very similar

So I can reach the dentist hiking but not walking?

That does not work on my Fenix 8 ... there is no difference if this is toggled on or not - I get a straight line in all ceses.

For me, I have to wait until Calculating at the top finishes. Which can take insane amount of time - minutes often, during which progress bar never moves. Pressing upper right button any time before that, I just get a straight line. If I wait long enough, it will eventually finish and plot the proper route. 

Well it is some kind of bug on Fenix 8. It doesn't matter if the ruting is toggled or not, in walking there is straight line navigation, in hiking, no problem - trail route. Fix it please. (Firmware 11.90).

All in all, it is not difficult to reproduce. All you need to do is save a GPS point, such as a "Home", in advance. Then move away from home, start up Walking, click navigation -> to saved points -> Home. And then regardless of whether ruting is toggled or not - navigation is always in a straight line. Just turn on any other sport, e.g. Hiking, and after start navigation again - normally shows the path along the roads.

Transferred the same point "Home" on my Garmin Epix Pro - everything works in Walking without a problem. The error is only on the Garmin 8.

I understand. However, when I follow these steps using the Walk app, I am getting map navigation as opposed to a straight line. So this is what I mean, when I say we cannot reproduce the issue, and would like to collect examples of what you are seeing.
