Fenix 8 software bugs normal?

It's normal for garmin yeah

I bought an FR935 on release (7 years ago) and there were tons of bugs on release. (I spent a lot of time going back and forth with support about a few of em which affected some of my primary use cases. To their credit, those bugs were resolved.)

I got an FR955 over a year after release, and there were still tons of bugs.

There's always certain problems you will never hear about from influencers, reviewers or bloggers, whether it's problems on release, or problems that have been around for years

tbh it's always easy to find bugs with Garmin. Just wait for new firmware to come out (and especially new features.)

Or change certain settings that Garmin probably didn't test, like using black background for activities on a MIP watch (there have been bugs with this in the past on Forerunners) or using the dark map theme (there's currently a bug with this on Forerunners and probably Fenix 7.)

Well, I guess that was the last new watch from Garmin for me then....1100 Euros to be a BETA Tester is not for me. I guess Garmin is no better than VW electric cars PS5 games 

Head over to the Fenix 7 forums, there are still significant bugs like the inability to sync Spotify with APs that enforce WPA2. It's been an issue for months without movement.

On the plus side, you've got the newest device which means you'll at least be their focus. Who knows it's going to us to get fixes over here in the 7 camp.

Garmin Pay , once you pay with Fenix 8, you don't see any success process.

Perfectly normal for a Garmin early adopter. I had it with my Fenix 7. It took quite some time before a stable release became available. If this were Apple Watches full of bugs glitches and reboots it would be front page news but Garmin seem to get away with it.

Every one I can remember since 3 started with the need to fix things.  They have historically worked hard to remedy the important stuff quickly.

I’d go ahead and buy it if you haven’t or hold on if you have.  If you like the features, no harm in using it while they stabilize it.

What if Im about to embark on a 5 day hike through the alpine. Should I trust it?

That in essence is what the Fenix is all about. I'm not sure I want to be told "just pull out your backup GPSMap device and hope that doesn't enter a reboot loop as well. If it does, just use your phone".

How did we get to a point where I trust my new Pixel 8 phone over a new Fenix?

Absolutely not. Could be a different story in 6 months but not at this stage.

I always have a paper map and compass no matter what electronic device I have for use in the wild. Don’t you?
