Holding back button during activity has no function on fenix 8 AMOLED

During an activity it was always possible to turn back to the watchface while holding the back button/lower right button on my fenix 6 and 7. This was also useful to scroll through menus and data screens. Will this come back on the fenix 8 AMOLED or is it just for MIP watches? Missing this on such an expensive device.

  • I miss this too & hope Garmin add it again!

In the meantime I've set a hokey shortcut when I long press the start activity button to take me to "watchface"

    Hold middle left button, goto:

Watch Settings>System>Shortcuts and change "Hold START" to Watch Face

  • I don't have a Fenix 8, but according to the manual, holding the back button is normally supposed to open a list of recent apps.

Is it possible to override "Hold BACK" the same way?

On FR955 (and other Forerunners), hold BACK doesn't do anything by default, but you can assign it as a hotkey to go to the watchface. And ofc, hold DOWN opens music controls by default, but you can also reassign it to do something else. (My point is that even the "system shortcuts" can typically be reassigned, except for stuff like hold LIGHT and hold UP.)

This video seems to indicate that "Hold BACK" can be reassigned in the hotkey settings for Fenix 8 (idk if the current production firmware is the same tho.)

  • It's still there, but it's a two step approach.

You first hold "back" button till you see the last widget menu.

Then just swipe down from the the top of the screen, alternatively just press the "up" button.
