Sensor protector colors...

Hi all,

I cannot get the concept behind the sensor protector colors on Fenix8 watches... Especially the Fenix8 Solar 47mm titanium gray... Why the *** are they putting a yellow sensor protector there that matches the default strap color knowing that with the quickfit concept a user most likely will use a different one at some point. And this yellow protector does not fit to any other color but yellow... This is a design fail for me. Why not simply using protector colors matching the bezel color??? Or the watch body...

Does anyone know if it is replacable? There are 2 screws so theoretically it can be taken off...

Someone on Reddit (Redwng) has already taken the sensor guard off https://imgur.com/a/fenix-8-cover-pmuH7EL.

Removable using a T5 bit and there is no glue involved.

I'm with you on this. The yellow cover on the bare titanium MIPS is horrible! It feels like it was designed by someone that wants the MIPS sales to tank....

What paint is recommended? For me, I can't see it being left off. It leaves a nasty cavern.

I agree the protective cover should not be left off.

If it were me, I'd try some automotive touch up paint - something like this, or similar:

Many colors to choose from and easy to apply once the cover has been removed from the watch.

Are you not worried about loosing warranty? Why not waiting for third party replacement covers? I am pretty sure they will come.

The only paint I would even consider for something like this is Cerakote. Any other "paint" is likely to chip under daily wear.

Unlikely that changing the cover affects the warranty.

This Fenix 8 rollout debacle is sad. Weird and uncomplementary colors, unaddressed bugs, and even fake posts. My Fenix 6 and Epix 2 were useful, flawless, and fun. This purchase is looking to me as an epic fail. Garmin used to be a name representing products that just worked and worked well. Ever heard of the Edsel? Google it. Very, very, sad.

Does it say anywhere that loosening screws on the device does not affect the warranty?

This act refers to repair work. I would not consider loosening screws in order to paint something and thus create a different condition to be a repair.
The device was not defective. In this case, it is dismantled in order to modify it.

If something is defective, it is repaired. It is maintained to prevent defects. What applies here?

No protection and no it's not needed for diving. It's solely there to visually distinguish it from the Fenix 7 Pro so you know which of your colleagues have money and who doesn't (hence why it's also brightly coloured). It's all marketing. We can't say that though, so we says it's a protector like it's got some useful function that necessitates it's inclusion.
