Fenix 8 Stopped Working

Last night my Fenix 8 went blank and I was unable to restart it. The battery was fully charged. I tried an hard reset but nothing happened. I plugged the watch into my mac and it booted up and was seen by Garmin Express, but once I unplugged the watch switched off. I also found that the watch would boot up when plugged in. While the watch was plugged in I tried a settings full reset but as soon as the charge cable was removed the watch it went blank again and would not respond.

  • I had yesterday similar experience with the Garmin Connect (with PC); as soon as I plugged it off from the cable, the watch shut down. However in my case I was able to start it from the power button again.

  • Mine shuts down as soon as it is taken away from a power supply although the watch is showing it 100% battery.

  • mine is having the same issue it's uresponsive and the screen is blank just the haptic feedback from the buttons

  • While my watch was connected to a power source I was able to do a full system restart. Which went okay. That is until I disconnected and the watch died. There is no response at all from the watch unless it is plugged into a charger or my mac book.

  • You can try this reset method:

    Garmin Reset

    Unprompted Reset

This reset will clear all settings, user profile, records, activity history, Connect IQ content, and other data.

It is recommended to read the steps in full below before performing them.

    1. Ensure the watch is powered off.
      • You may need to hold LIGHT for up to 30 seconds to turn the watch off.
    2. Press and hold BACK and START/STOP.
    3. Press LIGHT to power the watch on while holding these two buttons.
    4. After the first beep release START/STOP.
    5. After the second beep release the remaining buttons.

The reset is successful if the watch finishes powering up and goes through initial setup. Try the steps again if initial setup does not appear. Following the reset, place the watch outside with a clear view of the sky for a minimum of 20 minutes to acquire satellite data.

  • Unfortunately, I am unable to perform a Unprompted Reset. The watch away from power source is behaving as if it has no power and when I plug into power the LIGHT button is not active. If I power down the watch while connected to a power source it will not power on unless I disconnect the cable and plug back in, then the watch automatically shows a blue triangle and then boots up. I did try a Reset as the watch showed the blue triangle but I got no button feedback. I was able to do a system prompt full reset which the watch cycle through whilst connected to a power source, but as soon as I removed the power source the watch went back to it's dead state. The watch works fine along as it does not need to depend on the battery for power. Although it is showing a full battery.

  • I am now out of option to get my watch in to a operational state when not connected to a power source. I have reached out to Garmin support but 48 hours on I have not had a response. I am now looking at £1000 of nothing. This is the third Garmin watch over the years I have had issue with. I think it's my fault for jumping the gun so early on purchasing.

  • I have the same issue.  ANy one manage to resolve it?

  • I returned mine for a refund which I received today. I then went for a standard Fenix 8 from Amazon which I have had for two weeks and so far no problems at all.

  • Although I sent three emails to Garmin support I did not receive a reply apart from an automatic reply that my email requests for support had been received. I am unsure what is happening with Garmin. I have used their watches for 15 years because of their support which had, up until the Fenix 8, been great. I did not received any confirmation that Garmin had received my return nor that I had a refund. I was informed by Paypal that I had received a refund. It's not the customer support I would expect when having spent £1000. I should also say that I did call Garmin but was told that I would have to wait on the phone for 30 mins before speaking with someone.
