Airplane & Battery Saver mode not activated during sleep

I am unable to get my Fenix 8 AMOLED to automatically enable Airplane Mode and Battery Saver Mode during sleep.

On my Fenix 7, those two were automatically enabled during sleep mode. For the Fenix 8, the display changes to the sleep display and DnD turns on, but the watch keeps the connection to the phone alive. It also does not enter Battery Saver mode.

I have looked anywhere, but cannot find the setting anywhere. Is that a bug, or can I not find the setting?

  • Is there still a way to disable bluetooth and Wifi at night?

  • I'm guessing you can still disable them manually by activating the battery saver mode using the Controls menu...but it won't happen automatically as it can be done with 13.35

  • Hello,

Battery save has been removed from the Sleep mode settings. This was removed by design with this most recent software update. This is to prevent unintentionally having this activate, losing sleep tracking data through the night. This can still be activated manually.

  • I don't want to activate it manually. I've been using this functionality from owning the fenix 3, on the 5 6 7 and now 8, I've now got to use an older model (my epix pro) to continue with this function. At 23:00 my watch was always going automatically into sleep mode and battery saver activated, now I and I'm sure thousands of others have got to interact with our watches due to a few who fail to read the instructions. This function needs to return. So dissapointed with some of garmin decisions recently, older watches getting newer functions than even my 2 month old epix pro. I know its been out for over a year but even older models are getting more updated functionality, garmin obviously don't want to keep customers happy. The most successful companies put customers first to look after their future revenue.

  • this intentional design change is a poor choice IMHO. I, like many others here, relied on this automatic feature to save us battery life and avoid having any BT radio on during my sleep.

I'm sure there are a few outlier users who mistakenly disabled their OHR, but can't they learn from their mistakes. this is like saying that people accidentally used Ultratrac GPS mode and got mediocre GPS data and Garmin then chose to remove that mode to avoid people getting coarse data...

  • Appreciate the honesty  however we have been using our Garmin watches like this for years. I assume this will come back in some way, shape or form, however just because a few uneducated users change a setting, Garmins resolve cannot be to just remove it.

Im not sure how to give this feedback to Garmin other than a response here. Maybe this is just the start of the dumbing down of the Fenix UI as it is shared with all other "light" user watches such as the Venu and Vivoactive.... Ouch

  • That is the most pathetic excuse for the removal of a feature I have ever heard. Truly a perfect example of a few idiots screwing things up for the majority of people that have critical thinking abilities.

  • My Garmin models: Vivoactive 4, Fenix 6, Fenix 6X Pro, Tactix Delta, Tactix 7, Tactix 8
I upgraded to Tactix 8 because I believed in the quality and functionality of the Garmin brand.
The battery in the Tactix 8 Solar drains about 10% per day - where is the 30-day battery life?
In version 15.31 you removed the Battery saver function that I have been using for years - sleep without Bluetooth and Wifi
Why didn't you replace it with, for example, Airplane mode during sleep? Should I turn these functions on manually today? A big step forward.
For example, unnecessary voice control is more important to Garmin than a long-term happy user.
The poor battery life of the Solar version, Battery saver in sleep mode (or a similar function that AUTOMATICALLY turns off Bluetooth, Wifi, etc. during sleep) are the features that showed me that the Tactix 8 is my last Garmin. The Tactix 8 is expensive with lots of software bugs, not good value for the money.

  • What ? Removed by design ?????!!

This feature was available since it was introduced on the Fenix 6 !! And it was a very useful one. Some of us actually like the idea of turning bluetooth and wifi off from our wrists when we sleep. And doing this automatically was a great feature. Please bring it back !!!!

  • Wow this is really bad garmin. So you fix thing by turning of other things? Isn’t it better to just fix the thing that is broken?
