Power Profiles Error - Focus mode in Active mode forces display behavior, ignores AoD shutdown settings

Hello.

I ask Power Profile users to verify how the display behaves for you.

I train many disciplines. For some, such as running, cycling, I have the display in AoD mode. However, strength training, swimming in a pool, swimming in open water, hiking, walking, I have a gesture display.

The problem is that setting the Focus mode to AoD, as a global setting, does not allow power profiles for a specific activity (I created profiles specific to it for my disciplines), to turn off the screen and use gesture mode. It cannot be set the other way around (Focus mode - screen off, gesture action, power profile on, e.g. for running), because there is no such option to turn it on.

Secondly, when I use the "Resume later" function, even though I have the gesture setting with AoD off, the watchface does not go to sleep, instead it turns on AoD and draws energy (in a senseless way for me).

I just got rid of the power profiles bug on my Epix 2 to buy a new Fenix 8 and return to the problem that has been plaguing me for over half a year...

I ask for verification of everyone. I also ask the administration to pass on the problem and comment on the topic. I just got rid of the power profiles bug on my Epic to buy a new Fenix 8 and return to the problem that has been plaguing me for over half a year...

  • The issue still persist for me if by default AOD = ON and it's configured to be AOD = OFF in "battery saver mode" or in special power profile. I even tried the latest beta 15.22 but not yet fixed, please expedite

  • Do you have the Amoled? I found this is a problem with the Amoled version, not with the Solar...

  • Yes, AMOLED and it’s fixed fro some of the other garmin models but not the most modern, top of the line, Fenix 8 and this looks odd

  • This is reprehensible. I no longer have the health and strength to report this error in the next and next version of the Beta Test software. The function of changing the power profile settings is listed as one of those in the description on the sales pages and on the Garmin website for their watches. Meanwhile, in the Epix/Fenix 7 and Pro series, the repair took 1.5 years. In my opinion, it is enough to give global priority to the power profiles so that they force system and Focus mode changes. However, at this point, the system and power profile settings have nothing to say, because Focus mode forces everything and does not allow changes. It is the one that needs repair, but even when passing on the information to the admins, nothing has changed for 7 months. After all, this is the main function, so loudly advertised. You can just as well complain about the product being incompatible with the contract and demand a refund for it, because the function has not worked since the beginning of the watches. I have noticed that you can only turn off the OHR sensor, WiFi, Bluetooth, i.e. sensors. However, internal settings are not possible. Focus mode blocks them. I gave up and bought glasses with a MicroLED screen with ActiveLook - Engo 2. And I have real-time measurements in front of my eyes. Wrist mode works too slowly during fast training, competitions, and turning on AoD permanently consumes the battery, because I have a dozen or so trainings a week, and I don't always need the screen to be always on. For example, when training on Tacx, it is unnecessary. The same in the gym, swimming pool, while hiking in the mountains or walking. But running is specific and this one has to show me data immediately, without delays. Garmin is thus ignoring its intensive users of Fenix 8/Enduro 3, who are often Semi-Pro or Pro and take part in running, triathlon, cycling, swimming competitions. Just like in my case.

  • Update April 14, 2025:

Our engineers are aware of a concern that may cause Always on Display to not respect the battery saver or power mode settings. They are investigating this as a software related concern. If you are experiencing this, your device will not need to be replaced. I will post further updates, once there is more information available.

  • 7 months reporting this error… I understand that it must be extremely difficult to fix this simple error… perhaps the solution is to listen to your customers and fix it before adding new features with new bugs

  • It's not only AOD. On my Fenix 8 Solar, power profiles are also not applying correctly: Global setting is gesture mode for backlight after sunset, focus mode is "do not change" and the power profile for a specific activity is to turn off backlight. When applying the power profile for the activity, backlight still turns ON....
