Navigation questions

Hey everyone. Two questions.

1) If you plot a course to a waypoint in the "walk" activity, it draws a straight line. If you do it in the "hiking" activity - it's a proper route. All map and routing-related settings are the same, the map is the same. Is this normal?

2) Is there a way to do turn-by-turn navigation with alerts before turns if launching navigation towards a waypoint on the watch itself, not by creating a course in advance?

I think it's a bug with turn by turn navigation alerts. Every older Garmin models have that. I have the same problem with my fenix 8 and find nothing in settings to activate it. Think we must wait for…

I am sorry to hear you are having trouble with the routing. Are you ensuring that you have Route toggled on before starting the activity?

I think it's a bug with turn by turn navigation alerts. Every older Garmin models have that. I have the same problem with my fenix 8 and find nothing in settings to activate it. Think we must wait for an update. I have a open ticket at garmin support with this error.

I am sorry to hear you are having trouble with the routing. Are you ensuring that you have Route toggled on before starting the activity?

To use Navigational Routing instead of Direct Routing:

Press the upper Right button
Select Walk (or any desired GPS activity)
Scroll down and select Navigate
Select the desired course
Select Go To
Scroll down, and ensure Routing is toggled on

If this is toggled off, you will instead receive direct routing. And this Route toggle is specific to each activity.

If you are not seeing this is changed, ensure you are up to date with the latest SW version using Garmin Express. Then complete a hard reset. For this, hold the Light button until the watch shuts off, as opposed to selecting power off. Then power this on again.

But what’s the word on 2? A garmin outdoors watch with no turn notifications is… Well its one of the main reasons I buy it, to have!

Hi. Routing is enabled, but it still draws a straight line. Hiking works fine with identical settings.

Nope, still doesn't work.

I think you're confusing "turn prompts missing" (one existing problem on any activity) with "it just draws a straight line for walking, but a proper route for hiking" (another existing problem).

I can follow this up until select course, select go to? Not an option I see. Do Course is there which is also just selecting it, there is no routing anything at this point. I think these steps are not all accurate? You can go to activity settings and there is a routing menu, but that’s not a toggle, and the only toggle in it is popularity routing.

just saying for anyone needing it, I have the arrows in the map fine, just no notifications of turns, so I hope that’s a firmware priority!

Did you try that on a real watch?! It does not work and I can't understand you want us to upload any videos of that? Try yourself on I real watch!
