Button keeps activating itself.

Anyone else have issues with the button activating itself?

My watch keeps vibrating from time to time, and the watch act like the lower right button has been long pressed. For about 5-6 seconds after this happens i cant use the same button to go back.

  • Update September 10, 2024:

Our engineers are aware of reports of this button concern. If you are experiencing this, please reach out to Garmin Product Support. As there are some additional troubleshooting steps they will be able to provide.

  • I have a similar problem. Mainly when i'm driving in my car and resting my arm wearing the Fenix 8 on my thigh randomly some functions are activated so as if buttons were pressed, though they were definitely not pressed. It's just the screen touching my jeans .. very annoying!

  • I have the same issue on Tactix 8, second watch same issues, when I turn wrist and rest on thigh randomly activates buttons.  I can even lock the watch and it unlocks

  • Same issue on the Tactix 8 second watch same issue, randomly activates all buttons

  • I'm not sure if this is useful but something to try just in case. I've copy/pasted from someone else (named user 510118), you can see it here:
    https://forums.garmin.com/outdoor-recreation/outdoor-recreation/f/fenix-8-series/398970/can-t-seem-to-calibrate-fenix-8-buttons-using-the-file/1876723#1876723

The following steps will allow you to calibrate the buttons of your watch and possibly resolve the button issue you are experiencing.

    1. Plug your watch into a Windows PC or a Mac that has the ability to read MTP devices (a third party program may be needed for your Mac to see the watch as a drive).
    1. Locate the drive for your watch on the computer, and open the drive.
    1. Place the KEY_CALIBRATION.BIN file in the Internal Storage of your watch. It should not be placed in a subfolder.

    SEE "CLARIFICATIONS" BELOW

    1. Disconnect your watch from the computer.

The watch will go to a button calibration screen. Press each button fully a couple times. A green check will appear when the button is calibrated. After calibration has completed, turn off touch on your watch, and test the buttons to ensure they are working. If the buttons are still not working, let us know.

    CLARIFICATIONS:

As for KEY_CALIBRATION.BIN it took a week for someone here to 'splain this to me. You need to create it yourself. Open a plain text editor like Notepad in Windows. Create a New file. leave it Empty. Save it as KEY_CALIBRATION.BIN. For File Type I picked *.*

Then go back to Step 3 and copy it where stated. Unplug and walla! Your Screen will appear with five Red checks. Push the corresponding button to each. Each of mine flipped to green with one press on each.

Hopefully this will work for you, it worked for me and the bottom right button of my Fenix 8 being very unresponsive from new. It's now fine after this calibration process.

  • That’s what I have tried on both watches with no luck.  Garmin support provided me the calibration file.

  • I got rid of this annoying issue by activating the touchscreen lock.
