Activate turn by turn audio alert.

Hello,

How to activate turn by turn audio alert on Fenix 8. I can't find where is this feature on Fenix 8. I have my headphones connected to the watch but absolutely no alert on same course as Fenix 7 (I have alert with it). Sorry for my poor English.

  • This is just perfect - typical for Garmin! So Garmin has recently introduced a new type of voice alerts for navigation. This first  popped up in one of recent Fenix 7 firmware updated. In retrospect, it is now clear that was done specifically for Fenix 8. But this feature can't be turned on on Fenix 8. How was it tested? At the same time, it turned out that it is always enabled and can't be turned off on Fenix 7 where it annoys a lot of people!

This one example shows why I hesitate upgrading to Fenix 8 or Enduro 3 even though I have means - I just don't want to deal with a bunch of new bugs and wait for another 6-12 months (or forever) to have those bugs fixed.

  • It stared with a 19.xx beta on Forerunner series and I reported it the also, Many forum notes on thsi , hopefully this fix this shambles.

  • Unfortunately. I have to confirm what the previous speakers said. Audio prompts for navigation do not work. There are also no vibrations or any sound signals. Navigation has been castrated from the best function so far. It works well on my older watch Epix 2.

I have the distinct impression that this is damaged by the influence of Focus Mode, which does not work properly. I have also placed another bug regarding Focus mode and power profiles. You cannot currently set the screen to off if Focus mode is enabled for the display on AoD. It ignores what has the Power profile set. It should not look like this...

  • I also have to fully agree with the previous members, unfortunately. Had an EPIX before, and there were always audio turn-by-turn prompts through headphones, which were very annoying (disturbed my podcasts) and couldn't be deactivated. Of course, there was the beloved beep sound before a turn, too...

Now I tried my new fenix 8 this morning on a cycle ride with a loaded gpx course. What can I say...? I tried literally everything - focus modes, set the "audio output" in the activity settings to watch, connected device or default - and none of it worked.

There was neither a highly desirable beep from the fenix, nor a voice prompt through the headphones... The watch itself is totally amazing - but that really needs to be fixed, as this is one of the most important core features for me.

  • True. That's a basic navigation feature. And Garmin is known for maps and navigation, so that's castrating it of a basic, fundamental ability.

  • I just opened a chat session with Garmin regarding this exact topic. I wanted to experience it myself by building a course of my next run an 'navigating' that course.

While I did get/see an indication of my next turn, there are no visual/audible prompts making navigating an area you don't know pretty difficult if you have to both run and stare at your watch.

    I was told.

"This is actually under review by our engineers, I am adding you to the case and will follow up with you when I have an update"

I wasn't given the case number, and was multitasking and the chat session timed out unfortunately but there SEEMS to be a case out there regarding this.

I would HIGHLY suggest anyone expecting this feature to contact support via email or chat and ask for it.

  • Clearly another bug with the Fenix 8. Will continue to use my Epix when needing to navigate a course until this issue is fixed.

  • if you haven't, please reach out to them and complain.  You can do it by going to support on garmins main page and just open a support chat session.

  • I have the same issue with no turn prompts. Amazing this bug exists on such a core navigation feature.
