About 20 hours into this fēnix 8 – 51 mm, AMOLED adventure

Happily the Nylon band from my fēnix® 7 fits:

I am surprised how much more I like the AMOLED screen versus the solar f7
The UI will take a little time to get comfortable with but, I recognize the potential elegance to come
This morning I factory reset and removed the f7 from Connect. This means the f8 is a keeper
All important data fields, ANT+ sensors and applications are working

Ales, thank you for your review. I enjoyed reading it. Like you, I really like the AMOLED screen. I am fine with the new buttons. Also like you, I contacted a watch face developer asking for a f8 version…

Stinky Bits, part 1:

I rarely use the Garmin Connect Web site (cloud). However, I opened it this AM and noticed the f8 had not synch'd since yesterday afternoon. On the watch I opened:

Watch Settings, Connectivity, Wi-Fi

From there I verified Auto Upload is on. Next I did a Wi-Fi Synch. That got the cloud up to date.

I hope this was a one-time synch glitch.

Yes, I kind of think it's those once you go AMOLED, you can't go back. There are some cases which are better with MIP, but mostly it's just resistance for the changes and one did get used to the AMOLED things pretty quickly. There are reasons Garmin is bringing AMOLED to their watches and I admit I thought it was pointless and MIP is just best for the use case. I was wrong and especially the maps with AMOLED watches

I am old enough to remember seeing HiDef TV for the first time. There was no going back to standard television. Same thing here for me. The word I first though was elegance. MIP is drab and AMOLED is vibrant.

Especially standard tv on the new good displays. It wasn't so bad in the vacuum tube CRT's as it kind of nicely smoothed worst parts of it. But then going from 720p -> 1080p -> 4K, doesn't have so big differences, neither does HDR, but that initial jump was huge.

I would like to have a daily calories burned goal. This would be the similar to daily steps goal. I do that in my head but, it would be nice to have my watch pushing me to burn calories.

I know you can use a 3rd party site to do something like that but, I would rather something simpler.

Sorry. I never knew the name of the face. Unless the developer updates it to f8, I will not be able to find it in CIQ.
