custom navigation screen : not there any longer

I can't any longer have a screen that only appear when the navigation is on (not on the LANES, but on the main list of screens), it was really nice to have ETA, etc on those screens... and to not have them when not using navigation.

This is really a step back, the lanes thing is really not useable at all, really regret the fenix 7 ui for this part.

  • Im as welll very confused about navigation on my Fenix 8 amoled. I miss the navigation screens from my old 955.
    Where are they Garmin??.
The major reason for upgrade from 955 was better display and for easier navigation with old eyes!!

  • added to this, for a course, there no turn by turn options, there is simply none... the off track alert is the only one functionning... yes it's more than a beta, it's totally an unfinished product

  • I agree .. I miss those navigation screens that appeared only when active navigation was on.. And they were customizable with a lot of good info.. Really is a step back :(

  • there is so much options needed and mandatory, that it's very likely they had no time to put them on the device, let's cross finger.. having to set en ETA on another screen forever, when it's only relevant when navigating is not something they could decide :) let's be optimistic, the question is more the WHEN, because for turn notification, it was really happy I took my 7x as backup !!! if not, would have been ectic at best for a long trip !

  • This feature missing from the Fenix 8 is the biggest reason I won't be getting a Fenix 8. There are other reasons, many of which I could probably tolerate and adapt to.... but this one is by far the biggest one. They need to bring it back, and I definitely will not ever consider giving up my Epix Pro before they do. Navigation is the #1 reason I even have this watch, so Garmin burying its functionality and obfuscating its usability is not acceptable for me.

  • None of these issues were mentioned by DC Rainmaker. None! Anyone still thinks his reviews are objective?

By the way, does Up Ahead feature work?

  • Yes, Up ahead is there, but the whole navigation functionality is very disappointing, a huge step back. Very confusing guinas well, I can not get the fenix 8 navigation to work as my old 955.

He did, though. I first learned about this change when I watched his youtube review video of the fenix 8, he talks about it there. I don't remember if he gave an opinion on whether or not he liked the change, but he definitely did mention the change. I remember because it was exactly at that point in the video when I decided I wasn't buying this watch.

Edit: He talks about it at 12:30 in his video

  • Simply my opinion.  I think his reviews are as objective as possible.  Keep in mind, this thing has tons of features, and he may not have used all features on all of them.  Particularly in the first review.  I personally don't think he deliberately omitted bugs.  I don't know.

  • On a 10 hours hike, how could you not notice that there is no turn by turn notification (vocal or beep) ?

Maybe he was not needing it, but that's questionnable, only him can reply I guess
