Start button sensitivity issue.

Anyone else experiencing this? Constantly have to press the top right button 2 times because it didn’t respond the first time. Hardware? Software?

Fenix 8 AMOLED 47mm

  • Quick press? Slow press? Pressing all the way in?

  • Quick press while navigating the menu

  • Yeah, you aren't seeing things. The buttons, and especially Start, are somewhat... temperamental.

  • That’s unfortunate. Interacting with Fenix 7 was a joy this thing pisses me off every time I try to use it.

  • I wonder whether there will be more reports here in the future. The buttons on the MK diving watches are also inductive, but obviously have more "travel". They probably have more distance to travel before they perform their inductive function. They protrude further out of the housing. The more travel, the more reliable. I really hope that the buttons on the 8 series have been sufficiently tested for long-term reliable function.

    Quick press

Does this also happen if you give the button a short time to return to its starting position? In other words, if you briefly remove (lift) your finger from the button between the quick press ?

  • For me works fine each time and the vibration feedback is definitely more subtle and definite positive upgrade from F6 Pro, but overall the button feel is slightly different from the old ones due to the re-design

  • It’s mainly a problem if I haven’t touched the button for a while and then I go to use it. Seems like it has to get “worked in” before it becomes responsive again. Could be just a problem with my device.

    Possible.

  • i am not sure what your issue is but my buttons were unpredictable. Garmin provided me the following which fixed my issues:

The buttons did change on this watch due to the dive abilities of this watch, so they might take some getting used to. There is a calibration. The following steps will allow you to calibrate the buttons of your watch and possibly resolve the button issue you are experiencing.

    1. Plug your watch into a Windows PC or a Mac that has the ability to read MTP devices (a third party program may be needed for your Mac to see the watch as a drive).

    2. Locate the drive for your watch on the computer, and open the drive.

    3. Place the KEY_CALIBRATION.BIN file in the Internal Storage of your watch. It should not be placed in a subfolder.

    4. Disconnect your watch from the computer.

The watch will go to a button calibration screen. Press each button fully a couple times. A green check will appear when the button is calibrated. After calibration has completed, turn off touch on your watch, and test the buttons to ensure they are working. If the buttons are still not working, let us know.

    CLARIFICATIONS:

As for KEY_CALIBRATION.BIN it took a week for someone here to 'splain this to me. You need to create it yourself. Open a plain text editor like Notepad in Windows. Create a New file. leave it Empty. Save it as KEY_CALIBRATION.BIN. For File Type I picked *.*

Then go back to Step 3 and copy it where stated. Unplug and walla! Your Screen will appear with five Red checks. Push the corresponding button to each. Each of mine flipped to green with one press on each.

It seemed to have worked. Winner, winner, chicken dinner.

I think I'll go to the dentist. That's more fun.
