YouTube Music not supported

Looks like Fenix 8 is not on the list of supported devices and this YouTube Music app can't be found in the Connect IQ store with Fenix 8.

I wonder is there any plans to add this, as this was quite high up on the improvements expected when upgrading from Fenix 6..?

  • what I usually use it just to solve one of the tree from "Distance, Pace, Time"

Yeah, that's why I like Pacey. It does that one thing and it does it well. The bonuses for me that set it apart from other pace calcs are:

    - simplicity and power: everything is on the same page, including all input controls. everything is calculated on the fly as you change the inputs, there's no need to press a button to calculate the answer

    - the ability to set units independently for any of the quantities

    - the fact that both pace and speed are available (and automatically tied to each other). So I can easily calculate pace from speed or vice versa, in any units I want, to answer questions like "how many mph is 4:00 min/km?"

    - shortcuts for half marathon and marathon distances

    - the fairly unusual ability to "lock" one of the quantities so that when you adjust another one, the 3rd one changes automatically. IOW it's a way to be sure which quantity will change instead of letting the calculator guess

But again, it's probably not the kind of "simple" that most users are looking for, as in "simple to understand" and "zero learning curve".

I searched for "pace calc" on the iOS store and tried out the top 2 running pace calc results. Both of them have the same UI paradigm with 3 tabs, where each tab represents the quantity you want to calculate: Pace, Time or Distance. When you switch to a tab for a given quantity, the UI displays inputs for the other 2 quantities. You have to enter the other 2 quantities and press a button labelled Calculate to get an answer. In one of the apps, the answer is displayed on another screen

It's very simple to understand and straightforward, but it's missing:

    - speed (bc linking pace and speed on the same screen is obviously considered unnecessary or confusing)

    - the ability to do multiple calculations very quickly

    - the ability to easily reuse an answer as an input to the next calculation. e.g. In Pacey, I could set the distance to 10K and the time to 40:00 which would produce a pace of 4:00/km and a speed of 15 km/h (obviously this could easily be done without a pace calculator, but I just picked easy numbers for this example). If I want to know how long it would take to run a marathon for someone who ran at the same speed, I could just lock the pace and change the distance to marathon. The other 2 calculators wouldn't let me do the same thing without extra steps and manually entering the answer from one screen onto another screen.

So that's why I think Pacey is a power user tool, and it's simple in the sense that once you master it (which should take one minute), everything you want to do is very quick and easy. But I think most ppl would not even want to spend one minute to learn a new app. You really only see power tools being released for software developers (and other technical fields.)

  • Me too just got the Fenix 8 51mm amoled, YouTube not found on available list of music services !!!!!! …

  • I contacted Google and the developer a week ago, but both refused to give me an answer as to when YouTube Music is available on the Fenix 8. Has anyone gotten more information yet? I was now forced to buy Spotify (one-off €11, for a three-month subscription) but I much prefer to use YT music because I also pay monthly for the Premium. Thank you!

  • This is what I did also. 3mo of Spotify... Certainly annoying and hope they get their crap updated by then.

  • Amazon music were giving out five months free, which I kindly took their offer up until google release the app.

  • You can find the updated list of Garmin devices that support YouTube Music here: https://apps.garmin.com/apps/b841615b-6b4c-4425-a912-377827866362?tid=1. YouTube Music is continually reviewing both current and new devices for added support.  For any technical or account-related issues with YouTube Music on your Garmin device, please contact [email protected].

  • I wrote to them before and left a one star review. Maybe if we keep doing that, they will eventually get the message.

  • Google? My hunch is that they don't care. That is a very inward-looking company.
