About DLC coating

I do not understand the terms and technology of DLC coating. May I know if DLC coating is only available with a carbon grey bezel?

According to the pictures from Garmin, I found that the colors of the bezels on the following two models seem to be the same:

However, only the model with the leather band has a DLC coating bezel. Is there a model with a DLC coating bezel and an orange side protector? Additionally, is the bezel with DLC coating more scratch-resistant than the normal titanium one?

Thanks!

  • Yes, I always find the Garmin websites - at least with the watches - very confusing and misleading.
The descriptions are often not clear - descriptions of different colors/versions are combined.

The models are sometimes different in different countries.

Garmin should work more carefully here.

    just my two cents

  • What is also very confusing is the fact that the fenix watches are actually officially "outdoor adventure" watches.

So they clearly belong in the outdoor segment. NOT "sport fitness".
This is also how it is categorized on the German Garmin website.

BUT the German product support has sorted ALL watches into the "Sport fitness" segment.

Contrary to the website of their own country.

Very confusing when you have to navigate through the automatic menu during a phone call. Of course you choose "outdoor" for a fenix. But if you do this in Germany, you end up with a consultant who is not responsible for this at all.

My question as to why the fenix is suddenly no longer classified in the "outdoor" segment was answered as follows: "I can't tell you that. My team leader has decided that. From now on, everything that is worn on the wrist is "sport and fitness" for him.
This was obviously a personal, arbitrary decision that is contrary to the official classification of the devices.

  • I totally agree with your points. They always makes confusion.

  • Seems like the DLC coating on Fenix 8 is thinner or not a strong as it was on Epix gen2. I have my Fenix 8 for a week now, and I have already managed to get scratches on the bezel 2 times.

The watches linked in the title have no DLC coating.

  • My watch is with DLC
    fēnix® 8 – 47 mm, AMOLED

Sapphire, Carbon grey DLC titanium with Black/pebble grey silicone band

  • What did you hit your watch against, and how hard? How noticeable are the scratches? I've scratched my Fenix 8 bare titanium, and it's not noticeable, only noticeable to me at different angles.

  • I had the Fenix 7 DLC and went with the Titanium for 8.

reason being that DLC will eventually scratch, more than once (my 3 year old 7 has a bunch of them and I work in an office)

    when DLC scratches:

    1. It’s very visible

    2. there’s nothing you can do about it

titanium will scratch more but it’s harder to see and fixable (not that I think I’ll ever fix it)
