"No DEM elevation available" strikes back, v. 22.06 and 2025 maps

For some time now, I have had a problem with the elevation calibration according to DEM data on the Fenix 7x, with smartphone connectivity disabled.

A known error appears:

"No DEM elevation available"

Watch updated to latest version 22.06. Maps also.

I have downloaded the new maps (2025.10) five times using Garmin Express and it seems that three important DEM data files for Europe are missing. The old DEM version 2023.10 is being pulled instead. I think, problem is on Garmin's side.

Instead of outdated file D4713090A.img "Garmin DEM map EU 2023.10" should download this three:

- DB517000A.img: Garmin DEM Map Europe - West 2025.10
- DB518000A.img: Garmin DEM Map Europe - Central 2025.10
- D4713100A.img: Garmin DEM Map Europe - East 2025.10

but Garmin Express won't do it.

I've already deleted all map files from Fenix 7 memory three times, downloaded them from scratch but GE is stubborn.

I have Fenix 7X SS APAC version and have also been encountering "No DEM elevation available". Lately I realized that DEM elevation occasionally works but fails most of the time. I also realized that if you press the Start/Stop button shortly after selecting to calibrat using DEM, the elevation number appears. This value isn't the same as the number that calibrating with GPS returns so I'm thinking there's a bug instead of DEM outright not working.

Still on 21.19 with the test unit but also unable to Calibrate using DEM as it is supposed to be. "Retrieving DEM" for a while, ten "failed" directly after that, old - wrong - altitude is shown.

The known workaround of old is working though: either Start/Stop or swipe left to right will show the desired new and proven correct altitude is shown.

So the DEM issue is still there too. GREAT.

Exact the same with me, deleted all maps using GE, DEM-Maps gone as well, rebooted, reinstalled Maps from GE, the old DEM D4713090A.img was reinstalled again, the described problem persisted.

A big mistake was what I did after that: I just installed another map using GE. randomly chosen outside Europe. It installed. But no new DEM-Maps were installed along with it too.

Why was this a mistake? I got this newly installed maps with the also well known problem of "Update available" in Map Manager. Deleting wouldn't help, it remained queued whatever I did and I read almost all of the threads here about this, Installing via WLAN failed always after 97%, install/deinstall via GE always ok but everytime I connected "Continue download?". Deleting "GarminDevice.xml" didn't help neither did deinstall of Map Manager App nor did a normal factory reset (3-button) help - deletion of the folders in /Garmin did the trick - complete new setup.

But problem still there of course. Will update to 22.06 as sonn as it is available for my system via GE, but now I'm not optimistic anymore.

I don't have any of those - and how is it, that there are only two? Does it match with the files in /GARMIN? Are at least the two .imgs there?

I think bluefish has only two Topo Europe maps installed - Central and West, so it only has two DEM data files.

That would explain it, let's wait for his response.

Still neither you on 22.06 nor me on 21.19 (22.06 not being available to me yet via GE) get those new DEM maps. I tried more than once as you did too. After deleting all maps via GE the DEM map D4713090A.img was gone and it was reinstalled in the same version after reinstalling the Europe maps version 2025.10. No separate DEM map at all was installed with the other one I tested with so much pain(I think it was Central Asia). And ofc I don't see the DEM Maps on my device as bluefish does...(as you don't probably either)

This problems seem to be existing way to long. I'm very happy that I never upgraded my live unit but can test all this with the experimental system...

Now on 22.06., DEM has the same problems as before. I even deleted and reinstalled the maps again. No luck, the old DEM-Maps was loaded again.

Today I received an email from Garmin's support:

"We have opened a new investigation which will be used to determine the cause of this issue."

I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
