Garmin recently introduced several new features on the Forerunner 970 (e.g., Running Economy Score, etc.).
Do you think these features will make their way to the Fenix 7 Pro with a future update, or will they stay exclusive to the Forerunner 970?

I would say it would be highly unlikely
Now confirmed:
"Said differently (and confirmed), there are no plans for any of these newly listed features to trickle down into the Forerunner 265, 965, Fenix 7 Pro, or Epix Pro series."
Not sure, but most of the new metrics come from the HRM600 chest strap. So if this is written into the .fit file maybe it will be shown in connect. I think we have to wait until someone tries…

I assume you're joking. It's doubtful the features will even be added to the Fenix 8, but will rather be seen on the Fenix 8 Pro or 9 which should be coming up towards the end of the year.
No. Garmin wants to push you to buy new watch, not update older one with same features no matter that hardware supports those features.
After what's been going on at Garmin lately, I sincerely doubt it.

But it's the watch that writes the FIT file, not the chest strap, unless you use the new feature of the HRM 600 which allows recording an activity directly from the strap. The watch would have to read the new metrics from the strap and write them to the FIT file, which would almost certainly require a firmware update. It's unlikely that older watches would be updated to have this capability, for the same reason that it's unlikely that older watches would gain any of the new features which are selling points for the FR970.
But here's confirmation from an official source:
https://support.garmin.com/en-CA/?faq=2dHRQGwu9G7u5yfFkNDIV7
I guess:
- it's possible that step speed loss / loss % would be written if you record an activity directly from the HRM600 (unless they *really* want you to buy an FR970)
- it's possible (but unlikely) that step speed loss / loss % would be written if you record an activity with an unsupported watch (non-FR970) and HRM600. Maybe the data will be hidden in Connect, but visible via a 3rd party site like runalyze? There's actually some cases of metrics (not running dynamics) which are written to FIT files but hidden in Connect. I kinda doubt this will be the case with a new running dynamic, but I guess anything's possible. (Because, again, I think Garmin would have to explicitly add support via a software update on the watch, and why would they want to do that?)
But at least we can see that Garmin's intention is that you need both an FR970 and an HRM 600 for the new metrics. If there's a loophole or exception, you can bet it won't be something that most users will be able to take advantage of.
Also, why are ppl in this thread being downvoted for telling the truth? Especially since what they're saying is nothing new at all for Garmin, and what they're saying is no different in substance from others who were upvoted.
The same likeliness of getting the amoled on the F7 also as an update
Hi, even if all the hardware is the same (like Fenix 8) we will not receive any new major enhancement to the Fenix 7 Series (this include Epix 2, Enduro 2 and derivate models).

"In short Fenix 8 adds a microphone and speaker to the Fenix 7 line with a newer software interface. We see some same chips with Fenix 7 like main CPU, BLE/WiFi chip etc. But also we have a newer GNSS chip made by completely different company. Storage chip is different, etc. There are changes but basically it is still a Fenix 7 hardware wise with a speaker and microphone."
