Garmin revenue

I’m afraid those bugs are going to be around for a long time…

Garmin announces record revenue and $1.6 billion operating income in 2024, citing strong demand for smartwatches and other wearables

  • They should make decision, do they want stable software or new functions as soon as possible?

For now, Garmin offers neither one or the other. There is nothing to choose from ;)

  • Garmin too provides new features to many of its older and cheaper watches while effectively ending feature updates to relatively newer and more expensive Fenix Pro, Epix Pro and Instinct 2X lines. That is problematic.

You are looking from wrong perspective.
Fenix/Epix PRO are refreshed versions of Fenix 7/Epix 2 which were presented in 2022 and as such are three years old.

Regarding other companies, talk with people using Android phones and are not able to install new Android after two years.

No, you are looking it from wrong perspective.

Just because Garmin released slighlty upgraded watch does not mean that is older watch. Garmin chose that strategy and than abandoned those watches.

Moreover, Garmin did the dame with Fenix E which was released few months ago. By your logic, that is also 3 year old watch.

    That's it!

They're "abandoning" the Fenix 7 Pro after a year and a half, because it's just a refresh of the Fenix 7 from 3 years ago, but at the same time they're releasing the Fenix E (with identical hardware, just new software) and treating it like new.

Yes, I know... it's about maximizing profits. But that's too much. This is such a boorish move that a company as big as Garmin should be ashamed of doing such things.

  • The Fenix pro and Epix pro lines with Elevate5 sensor are more recent hardware compared to the Fenix 8E which actually has 4 year old internals. Likewise the Instinct 3E has older internals (ie an Instinct 1.5) than Instinct 2X. It is blatant profiteering.

  • Oh.. you're right! Well, that's an even more incredible situation. An attempt to cheat customers. There are no rational arguments for releasing such an outdated hardware product.

  • Regarding your comment "are not able to install new Android after two years". I believe to sell in the EU, products would have to be supported for longer.

Google for its part no longer supports Android 11 and earlier. Financial institutions were notified to standardize their mobile apps on Anddroid 12 and higher. Hence several jurisdictions are forcing mobile phone manufacturers to provide longer support. Most recently a company like Motorola increased its s/w support to 6 years for its budget entry level M75 costing around USD 240. In Garmins case we are talking of watches costing USD500 plus for the I2X and over USD1000 for the F7P.

  • Samsung gives software updates for 7 years for Galaxy Tab S10.

  • My Google Pixel 8 is supported until 2030, it's infinitely more complex software, and updates don't cause basic features to break.

  • Regarding other companies, talk with people using Android phones and are not able to install new Android after two years.

In Android smartphones, at least 2-3 years of system updates and 3-4 years of security patches are becoming the standard in the cheapest phones from China that are officially distributed in Europe.

As a rule, mid-range and high-end phones have this support extended to 4-5 years.

Companies such as Google and Samsung already offer 6-7 years of system updates.
