Fenix 7 - 19.41 battery problem

Hello Garmin,

i have my Fenix 7 since 2 years.. no problems. Always on my wrist!

Recently i experienced a strange behaviour.. 3 times i woke up and the battery was drained (at least 50% in 8hours of sleeping)

I have always run the latest software..(no custom watchfaces)

What is the problem? What you suggest ?
thanks

  • I do not think, it has something to do with 19.41.

I also have the latest firmware, and my F7 uses 5-6% battery/24 hours when I do nothing special with it

Recharge and see if it happens again  if it does contact Garmin Support

  • My F7Pro eats a bit more than with already hungry 19.40. About 7%/day. Even with battery saver mode during night, in which it takes almost 0.3%/hour.

Last battery friendly FW was 17.28 for me. It has almost half battery consumption in idle mode without activity tracking.

I'm still patient, will wait a bit longer, but if this won't be resolved (I guess it never would) I'll return the Garmin crap and never support the company again.

Something has definitely changed since 17.28 version, maybe it will be ok if Garmin makes statement, that because of some improvements the battery consumption is now higher and makes new battery life tables like other brands do. Some have even dramatically increased battery life with new software...

  • It appears there may be challenges within Garmin’s development process regarding recent software updates. From my understanding, three beta releases were transitioned to general availability (GA), but these versions have exhibited notable issues. A more customer-focused approach might have been to temporarily withdraw the affected release and prioritize a fix. Unfortunately, the decision to keep it available has led to users experiencing disruptions, such as reboots during activities. This situation may leave some customers feeling that their concerns are not being adequately addressed.

Unfortunately common with other "minor" brands I've used in the past. Having said that, being my first experience with Garmin, I am quite amazed to see that this happens for it as well especially after 2 years of fw releases

  • You are right and I agree with you. This is common problem, and its not limited to Garmin. Most developers are pushing software in alpha or beta states, and later patch it with various patches or fixes. This is ridiculous approach, and always ruins customers experience.

Quite honestly, I am not asking for much from Garmin, only when such issues are identified, rather than pushing the people to update to broken software, which can ruin the whole experience, they can publish an informational bulletin which informs people that this version might experience issues with this or that. That's, I believe, is more than enough for every to decide for himself if he would like to upgrade or not. Or even better withdrawn the affected release, apologize to the customers and move on working on a fix... Simple enough.

  • Garmin loves to use it's users as beta testers. 19.41 is not a stable release whatsoever, multiple issues with it from every single angle possible, especially on Fenix 7's. The bottom line is that Garmin doesn't really care about their customer base, just about pushing the latest hardware and their bottom line. They're playing a finite game.

  • Am having the same issue as well. It's a 9 month old watch with very minimal activity usage. Did them all. Hard reset soft reset backdate the update, update the update, it's still the same nonsense. outdoor watch with a poor battery life. currently at full charge with no activity, it can only last like 2 days'ish. even my 13 year old suunto can hold like 3 weeks of charge if normal usage. this is probably my very last garmin as the previous two instinct i had also died due to battery issue (they will ask you to buy a new one instead of offering you a battery replacement).  should have went back to suunto or try corus after the last garmin watch that died on me. absolutely regretted this purchase...
