F7, 19.34, about saving Courses & Locations

Hi,
with 19.34 it should now be possible to add Courses and Locations to the backup, but on GC, GE and also on the watch these options are not available, so I have no idea where to enable them to proceed with the backup. Hints?

TIA

Even on GE as you can see here above I'm not able to do anything

  • Well I did factory reset now and guess what, I can't turn on courses and saved locations. No idea what I'm doing wrong.

Edit. Second reset success however I removed the device from GE and from GC as well. It's a success however as soon as I synced all my courses back to watch and disconnected from GE the settings again turned greyed out.

So how can I sync and use these functions? I'm not doing again factory reset and doesn't make sense to send to watch one by one my saved courses but what about my saved locations?

Thanks, I may try again some time because I did really like GE until I probably made a mistake while adding a new empty device and tried to sync my wapoints collection to it, and now I am too chicken to try it again.

  • Just sync these devices to different collections, than you will have no duplicates. You have to configure this when adding device, so no global sync will be made. Then make sync to collection dedicated to his device. Afterwards, you can add, remove synced collection on the fly; works very well, I use it for managing courses, points tracks between devices and cloud storage - so I sync only these courses, which I currently need, keeping all other in collections (eg. Alps, Transalp, Dolomites etc) which I currently do not sync. It really works

  • I deleted all data and reset settings. That worked. And since the restore brought virtually everything back there was minimal time needed to fully restore the watch - only a couple of 3rd party app settings and wifi IIRC but that was all.

Second reset success however I removed the device from GE

If you mean Garmin Express then I didn't do that. I did remove the watch from Garmin Explore, in fact I've completely removed Garmin Explore from my phone. There is a need to remove the watch from GCM when resetting anyway so that happened as a matter of course.

  • Just sync these devices to different collections, than you will have no duplicates.

It's likely me being stupid but I've been down that road and had different collections for different watches and for my GPSMap66i. But still, I've always seemed to end up with duplicates. Point is, if the course or location is the same and already on the watch then there should be some option available to overwrite or or add. Garmin Explore shouldn't simply add it multiple times.

  • I followed exactly the same procedure as you, but without success Shrug
