Battery drain on 18.14

Also the highest voted Bug from the beta forum is not fixed and now we have again wait the next few month for a fix:

here some observations that i've made the last few times:

  • After a reboot battery consumption is normal, round about 4-5% a day without GPS use
  • If i do an activity with GPS use the battery consumption with GPS is normal - ca. 3%/hour - I have done Racebike riding, running, walking, hiking
  • After the activity is finished the battery consumption jumps to around 10% a day and stays there until a reboot is done.

So for me it looks like there hangs something after a activity with GSP

  • But do you have the firmware? And do you know the sensor firmware will work? As they don’t get downgraded apparently?

if you have it it would be very find of you to share

  • Yes, we all know your spiel: I don't see it, there can't be a problem, HTH

  • I have the 17.28 but 7x pro version. I never had any issues but everyone is doing it by own risk.

  • Sure, everything that helps! Being on Battery tracking for 10 hours already. After charging to 100%, I started a running activity with GPS for 3 seconds, cancelled it. Already down 5% charge. Also removed everything CIQ, so completely stock

  • That number of complaints is far from "everyone."  So... my statement stands, this problem does NOT affect EVERYONE!

Chill out a bit and read what you wrote again:

This problem does not affect everyone.  That's what makes it (apparently) such a difficult problem to resolve.

To that sentence I replied that finding the problem shouldn't be a problem due to the number of users who report the same problem. It's not like two people have reported and don't want to help solve the problem. The number of reports we have now on this forum is quite a lot.

Especially since there was an identical problem with GPS/GNSS in Fenix 8, and it was fixed. And the sensor software is probably mostly identical between these watches.

And yes. You're right that the problem doesn't affect everyone. Fortunately, at least some users don't have to be annoyed by all the bugs ;)

  • How many people are part of the beta programme? How many have raised the battery issue?

  • How many people are part of the beta programme?

There is probably no access to such statistics.

How many have raised the battery issue?

112 people upvoted the beta issue report. And this report was the most frequently "liked":

Since the release of version 18.14 as "stable", more and more people have been reporting in various forum threads that they have problems with battery drain in Fenix 7, Epix 2, Enduro 2, etc.

I don't dispute that.  I never said there wasn't a problem, just that it does not affect everyone.  That poses a problem when troubleshooting a solution - what if a solution for some of the users winds up breaking what was working for others?

Do you know how many tactix 7 users reported problems during the Beta phase? None.  That's because the tactix 7 watches are not eligible to participate in the Beta software program - maybe that's a clue to the root cause of the problem.

How many of the users who have reported the battery drain issue have had Beta software installed in the past?  I don't know, but maybe worth finding out? Perhaps there is an enduring artifact from a previous Beta version that is causing the problem?

All I'm trying to do is provide an existent proof for a "fenix 7 Series" watch that is NOT affected by the problem - that might provide a clue to more quickly resolving the issue.

    And, yes...

    HTH

  • Yee, okay. There are always a lot of "battery dying" reports during beta. That's right and I always follow them with a grain of salt. But my F7 has never seen a beta, received every stable in order and has been factory reset. But it is showing the more than double energy consumption than normal since 18.14.

  • It seems many Fenix 7 users are facing battery drain issues after the 18.14 update.

I initially thought the battery drain on my Fenix 7X was due to some software conflict after updating to 18.14, as it’s losing around 10% of battery per day without using any GPS functions, which is quite frustrating.

After reading through discussions on this topic, it appears the only solution might be to wait for the next update.
