Battery drain on 18.14

Also the highest voted Bug from the beta forum is not fixed and now we have again wait the next few month for a fix:

here some observations that i've made the last few times:

  • After a reboot battery consumption is normal, round about 4-5% a day without GPS use
  • If i do an activity with GPS use the battery consumption with GPS is normal - ca. 3%/hour - I have done Racebike riding, running, walking, hiking
  • After the activity is finished the battery consumption jumps to around 10% a day and stays there until a reboot is done.

So for me it looks like there hangs something after a activity with GSP

  • Unacceptable that it takes this long for a fix for such an expensive watch.

I didn't know that it was based on price. Ok, fenix 8 is more expensive. Then that will probably be more important ;)

  • I am just saying it is pretty annoying you pay such a high price for a watch and then they ignore bug report etc. in the beta program and still rollit out to „stable“. Also the Fenix 8 had the same issue and it already got fixed yesterday. So yes looks like Fenix 8 was more important.

  • It's currently the most flawed product, yet it's also the cash cow that many people are chasing. If you follow the forums, you'll see many first-time Garmin buyers who spent an excessive amount of money on a watch hyped by clickbait as the "Apple Watch Ultra Killer." So yes, in the mid- to long-term, this will likely be the product that generates the most revenue.

  • Have the same issue with my Fenix 7 Sapphire. Battery consumption was about 6% per day, and now it doubled to 12% per day. Therefore, I switched of Garmin share, hope it will help to come back to normal battery consumption. I do not need Garmin Share if this feature would kill the battery.

GARMIN - YOU NEED TO REPAIR YOUR FIRMWARE IMMADIATLY - THIS BATTERY PROBLEM IS NOT ACCAPTABLE

  • I do understand the concern with battery drain. And this is something that Garmin is concerned with addressing as well. It is not a question of how many people are reporting this, but since it doesn't effect everyone, it is important to be able to get specific examples for those that are reporting it. This would include collecting logging data. This allows our engineers to diagnose the concern.

Thank you to those of your that have already reached out to me via Private Message (I have already responded to you), that wish to do this. And I will continue to do so, and report those details to our engineers to this can be investigated.,

  • Many users already shared the issue and how to reproduce it (since the beta btw). It is after a GPS activity the drain is massive. Then you either have to reboot the watch or start and stop a non gps activity. It‘s like the GPS is stuck turned on after ending a gps activity.

If normal users like us can reproduce the issue then I am sure your Garmin Engineers can easily reproduce the bug aswell and could push a hotfix pretty fast.

  • Thanks for this. I understand it might not be affecting everyone.

I consider my watch pretty much vanilla other than choosing a built in watch face from default and turning everything off but the time date, barometer and steps.

no plugins custom faces or app, I even keep Bluetooth off lol.

if you can share how to upload logs I’m happy to fully charge reboot give it a few days and send some logs over.

Not done any activity today. Rebooted this morning and I’ve lost 8% so far :-(

So the idea of restarting or doing a non gps activity doesn’t work for me.

happily ship you the watch if it’ll help!

  • Agree...nothing to add here...you have been collecting userfiles for months now Laurie ...not a new topic...now please do somethong with the collected data and please stop wasting time

something stuck after gps activity, 2-3x more drain after that unsless you restart watch or start nonGPS activity

    Thats it.

Btw: you may have found the issue on F8 already? Could be the same issue?

    Suggestion: investigate that ;)

  • Great, that Garmin works to find a solution. Please understand, that not everybody has the time or the experience to support Garmin to test firmware. The firmware problem is solely a Garmin problem - user want to enjoy Garmin smart watches, and to own a product which performs like specified by Garmin.

  • I am also seeing massive battery drain since 18.14. I did a 5k run this morning used 2%, but then after that drained more than 12% during the day. Normally I have a our 1% to 3% for a daily drain without exercise
