MapManager - “Map Sync Failed”. Maps updated via computer but watch still reflects updates available with one still “queued”.

I attempted to update the maps on my Fenix 7X over WiFi through the MapManager which resulted in the error “Map Sync Failed” over the course of a few days. After seeing I wasn’t the only person who has experienced this I attempted to update the maps using a direct connection via Windows through Garmin Express. GE reflected the same map updates available. I updated the maps expecting this to remove the “updates available” message from the MapManager on the watch. After the mapp were updated  and GE reflected that the watch was up to date I checked the MapManager to find that all of the maps still reflect “update available” and the Courseview Americas is still in a “Queued” status. Each time the watch is plugged in it attempts to download the queued map data and fails with the “Map Sync Failed” error. I have attempted deleting the maps and then reinstalling them with the same result. I am unable to delete the Coirseview Americas map set as it is apparently required for operation and this won’t allow it to be deleted and reinstalled. I am assuming it would have the same result anyhow considering removing and reinstalling didn’t resolve the other “update available” issue. Any resolution available for this?

  • With my test unit (on 21.19 at this time) I experienced that as well, none of the above helped, not even factory reset. The map which was "queued" wasn't even installed anymore on the system and did not show in GE as installed anymore. Still it was shown as "queued" in Map Manager and asked for download every time I connected the unit with the cable.

I had to delete all folders in /Garmin. After that the mismatch was gone, I deinstalled all other maps in GE, reinstalled and problem was gone.

  • There's a way of cancelling a queued download. I can't quit remember the button sequence right now but it might require reselecting the download, then you get the choice of cancelling. I was in this position for a while and after mucking about with the buttons, somewhat randomly at the time, I stumbled across this cancellation selection.

  • This is now August 2025, and I am still having the same problems with a newly bought Fenix 7s pro. @garmin, is there any solution apart from returning the watch? Thanks.

  • I have the same problem and no solution yet. The watch keeps buzzing every minute while showing this error during charging.

  • Its so disappointing. I have now returned the watch. I couldn't deal with how much hassle it is. For the price that they put up, at least we should have a seamless first experience. Put me off from buying future Garmin watches.

  • looks like not everyone experiences this problem. But there are a lot of complains in this chat.

Hey, Garmin! If you need help to debug problem I’m here ready to help you
