Why has my 7x pro started giving me audio prompts for nav. And how can I get rid of these?

Until last week I'd get an audio alert for each lap. Now it tells me every single turn. Rather than just a beep and vibration on the watch, I get a voice telling me about upcoming turn, and then to turn (usually after I already turned) It's extremely annoying and I can't find a way to get rid of it. I can turn off nav alerts, but I still want the prompt showing on the watch, I just dot want to hear about it. Garmin support have been less than helpful so far. Any suggestions?

  • You can't turn off the audio messages from the navigation ???!!!!

You are only able disable audio prompts while navigating if you would need to disable turn prompts in the navigation settings. Our engineers have indicated that having audible turn prompts from the phone, when turn prompts are enabled at all, is by design. However they are still tracking this as an experience concern, from those that would prefer this was not the case.

You are also able to stop these by disabling the Bluetooth connection with the phone.

If you have disabled all audio and navigation turn prompts, but are still receiving the prompts, feel free to reach out to me via Private Message.

  • Bollocks, why are you saying this nonsense

This is broken by firmware or the engineers changed that because in previous firmwares it worked well since the launch of the Fenix 7 and you can't deny that. It's never was by design, it's by choice by you!

You're guys on the right track losing lots of potential future customers by this, by your firmware policy etc. Well done Thumbsup tone3

  • Are you really doubling down on this, after all these pages of people requesting that you bring BACK the feature that we had on PREVIOUS FENIX GENERATIONS?!

I'm hard of hearing, and my phone is always connected to my hearing aids via Bluetooth. Not being able to turn these off is completely ruining my Garmin experience, just because you can't be bothered to create a quick workaround.

I've been a Garmin user for over 15 years. If this isn't resolved soon, I'll be happily moving away from your money-grabbing antics.

That's factually incorrect, ! There are some audio prompt that remain even after turn prompts are disabled. For example, prompts about upcoming waypoints and prompts about upcoming end of route. Those can't be turned off in any way. I have corrected you two times already and you acknowledged that, and yet you keep suggesting an incorrect solution!

This whole thing was completely botched by Garmin. What likely happened is that this code was changed to support Fenix 8 and Enduro 3 where audio settings are configured differently, and Garmin engineers were ignorant about breaking how this code works on the previous generation of watches, and now Garmin calls that by design!

There are some other things that were broken on Fenix 7 at the same time, for example map themes!

  • Ladies and Gentlemen, posting here is p*ssing into the wind. Garmin thinks this is "working as designed" and the Garmin reps here keep posting the same ridiculous answer. So the best bet is to email support directly:

  • Please. If the formal Garmin position is that this is by design, then frankly, like others, this really is the last straw.

This nonsense has to stop. I’m ready to go elsewhere however painful it is to setup on a new product and system. It’s got to be easier than staying with Garmin.

  • That's factually incorrect, ! There are some audio prompt that remain even after turn prompts are disabled.

My Statement is correct. Audio prompts during navigation sounding when all audio prompts have been disabled, while turn prompts are enabled, is by design. There is an experience case tracking this.

Some have reported they are still receiving audio prompts even when turn prompts are disabled. This is not by design. And is something our engineers are investigating. This is why I recommended reaching to me via Private message. So we can investigate this further.

In the mean time, if this renders the device unuseable for you, you can disable the Bluetooth connection with the phone.

  • And you think that'll work?

  • Why is this "by design" now, when it could be turned off on the Fenix 6X?

I, for one, don't want to have to disconnect the Bluetooth from my phone, as, like I stated, my hearing aids are constantly connected to my phone. This is how I make phone calls, listen to music, etc.

It's absolutely pathetic that you think this is a worthwhile conclusion when there's so many pages of people asking you to NOT DO THIS.

  • I reported the same bug, still receiving audio prompts when turn prompts are disabled by phone support, several weeks ago.  I provided detailed reproduction steps and was promised a call back - didn't get one.
