Why has my 7x pro started giving me audio prompts for nav. And how can I get rid of these?

Until last week I'd get an audio alert for each lap. Now it tells me every single turn. Rather than just a beep and vibration on the watch, I get a voice telling me about upcoming turn, and then to turn (usually after I already turned) It's extremely annoying and I can't find a way to get rid of it. I can turn off nav alerts, but I still want the prompt showing on the watch, I just dot want to hear about it. Garmin support have been less than helpful so far. Any suggestions?

  • How can I get my poor experience of this feature tracked by your engineers please?

I think the only thing we can do is complain to Garmin Product support directly. Complaining here on the forums can too easily be overlooked by Garmin.

You can find the contact information on support.garmin.com

  • This happened to me yesterday while riding my bike following a route. I stopped only to confirm that I had all the Audio Promts options OFF (in the watch and in the app)... I ended up lowering my phone volume to 0.

That's annoying! I do not want a synthetic voice bothering me while I am trying to enjoy the silence...

  • Notice how Laurie or anyone from Garmin doesn't reply in this thread anymore? Thats how you know this issue isnt being tracked in any significant way. I wouldn't hold your breath on any changes coming anytime soon, if ever, to address this.

Honestly, what I have resorted to is writing reviews on several different websites as 1 star and explaining how poorly Garmin has handled this. I encourage others to do the same and write reviews on websites like Amazon, Best Buy, Kohls, Walmart, etc... You can even use this template if you like:

As a Garmin watch user for over 5 years, I can no longer recommend Garmin's watches due to lack of support, and inability to act on customer complaints.

About 8 months ago, a "feature" was introduced where the watch will verbally announce upcoming turns when navigating through a course and using bluetooth headphones. This has essentially ruined the experience of running courses while listening to music/podcasts, as the announcer will constantly interrupt whatever you are listening to. There is no way to turn off the voice navigation other than disabling bluetooth during runs.

This issue was brought up numerous times on the forums, has been acknowledged by Garmin employees, and completely disregarded for over 8 months. Many users have complained about this "feature". Yet, as of Wednesday, January 22nd 2025, we have been notified that there are no current plans to allow users the ability to turn it off.

It is unacceptable to purchase a device only to have the device update and ruin the features you originally bought the device for.

For these reasons, my recommendation is now to get <INSERT OTHER BRAND WATCH>.

  • I agree, this is a terrible treatment from Garmin support team, not considering at all users feedbacks

  • , can you tell us something about this bug?

It's so annoying bug and looks easy to solve for me, maybe I am wrong, but we are suffering this for too long.

Is there any plans to fix the audio prompts issue?

  • This is exactly why it's so annoying. It should've been working correctly from day one, just like it did on my 6X.

The fact they're just trying to gloss over it as not being a problem (because they can't be bothered to fix it.)

Meanwhile, it's HUGELY frustrating for so many users, which is exactly why this has turned into a 9 page thread (and counting) of angry and frustrated "flagship" watch owners.

Do the right thing, Garmin. Give us this ridiculously basic aspect of the watch that was obviously meant to be there in the first place.

  • For these reasons, my recommendation is now to get <INSERT OTHER BRAND WATCH>

That's what I have done. I wanted to upgrade to Enduro 3, but this issue and a number of other issues ignored by Garmin have contributed to my decision to not give any more of my money to Garmin.

I really liked Fenix 7X when I bought it, but my experience of owning it was little by little ruined - first the touch was made unusable, the the HR accuracy ruined, and then these audio prompts, which cannot be turned off. Then the map rendering was made worse and custom map themes discontinued (for example no more high contrast theme). Also Up Ahead was broken when doing longer ultramarathons and I experienced crashes when using navigation.

  • this has been going on for too long now. Any updates?
