Firmware 16.22, for me, the best so far.

I have had my Fenix 7X pro Sapphire since September 2023, I know many will turn up their noses, but for me this firmware is really fantastic. Starting from the battery consumption, I noticed immediately after updating the firmware and charging my Fenix, that the battery remained at 100% for the first day, ok I hadn't done any activity, but with the other firmware the battery would dropped by at least 2%. My wrist heart rate sensor always remains active, even with the energy saving mode which is activated from 10.00pm to 7.00am. On Saturday I did an ultramarathon lasting more than 9 hours, I started with 72% charge, and I arrived at the end, if I'm not mistaken with 54%, with a loaded track and with the "climb pro" function which helped me in the go up. So I'm really happy with the consumption of my device. Furthermore, the question of the wrist heart rate sensor which remains active even when I pair my HRM Pro band is better in my opinion. This is because before I noticed that as soon as I finished my run and uncoupled the band, my wrist sensor dropped my heart rate drastically, and this (obviously) wasn't right, I also went from 130bpm with the band to 85bpm with the wrist sensor. However, now as soon as I uncouple the band, I notice that the wrist sensor remains at the values that my pro plus band had previously, as it should be. I only use official Garmin watch faces and have not noticed any lag or weird things on my watch face.

  • Similar experience to you. Battery life is phenomenal (feels like I've got an additional 2-3 days out of it versus 15.x). No issues with the OHR so long as the watch is strapped tightly, but a handful of users will now jump in and fight us for saying that Smile.

This isn't to take away from those few who are experiencing legitimate issues with boot-loops and crashes. You're heard. You matter. You're affirmed and I hope you get your problems sorted soon. But yeah, this has been a pretty good release for me personally.

  • Couldn't agree more. Sadly, reading these forums would give the impression that all is gloom and doom. But that's the nature of forums like these; at least Garmin provide a forum unlike some other brands. While Garmin have made massive improvements over the years, there will always be some people who will have problems. Probably fair to say that each user uses the watch in a different way to other users and has a different physiology to every other user. Best we can do is to ensure any issues are reported to Garmin promptly so that a fix can be implemented quickly.

Always nice to see posts like the OP's. People are quick to damn but slow to praise. A ray of sunshine amongst the gloom and doom.

  • My tactix 7 Standard and tactix 7 AMOLED are both performing very well on 16.22 - yes, I can even say better than ever.

    Thanks for posting.

Which is garmin's fault. Bugs can happen, but certain issues, like removing existing watchfaces or making existing watchfaces bugged due to a new update, should not happen. I can understand the frustration. Personally, I will always wait a month until updating, just to be safe.

Which I unfortunately did not do this time, as I also thought, well what should happen? It's just an update. 16.22 messed up my favorite aviator watchface on the marq 2, and now we can wait weeks but hopefully not months until garmin has fixed the problem.

  • Interesting, it seems you have a lot of garmin watches. Both Tactix versions and a marq2? Not bad.

  • A few of us have multiple watches. I have Epix Pro, F7 Pro, Instinct 2X plus some older ones. I've been a Garmin user since the FR305. For me the worst one was the 310XT. A few too many problems with that one. But the others have been pretty good overall. The recent  Outdoor range ones with the AMOLED screens are the best out there IMVHO. But then I've had few of the problems that some seem to constantly have so obviously I'm very biased.

  • like removing existing watchfaces or making existing watchfaces bugged due to a new update, should not happen

If these are third party watch faces, there's a very good chance the author simply isn't supporting the new CIQ version that came with the release.

It's a different story if an existing, supported watch face is broken. Maybe there's some backwards compatibility issue there. Either way, raise it with the dev.

MARQ Aviator Gen2, tactix 7 Standard, tactix 7 AMOLED, Epix Gen 2, Instinct Crossover, Instinct 2 Solar Tactical, Instinct 2X Solar Tactical, Fenix 6X Pro (Gorilla Glass), 3 1st Gen Instincts, fenix 3, tactix Bravo, fenix 2, fenix 2 SE, tactix, and an OG fenix.  Older ones I keep around just for the odd use case - 910XT, 310XT and a Forerunner 205.

    Hey, it's a hobby.
