I have an asterisk beside my software version

I have an asterisk beside my software version and I'm not sure why. Also when I try to install apps it tells me my watch needs and update but when I search for an update it says I'm up to date. Any help?

I believe this is an indication that the base software didn't install correctly. I would sync your watch with Garmin Express to make sure you all sw modules get downloaded to your watch.

I now got an asterisk after the FW version also:

I installed fw 17.28 back in June (= more than 3 months ago). The asterisk for sure was not there all the time since June, I have noticed that today. Since June, I did multiple watch restarts (holding LIGHT for 15s).

When I scroll more down in the About screen, I can see the text "Host: 17.28 (f330a14)", so the Host version matches 17.28, contrary to what is stated here : https://forums.garmin.com/outdoor-recreation/outdoor-recreation/f/epix-2/336112/epix-pro-software-version-number-with-an-asterisk-in-the-end---what-does-it-mean#pifragment-1292=1

What could be wrong with my watch, Garmin - Chris? Why am I suddenly getting the asterisk after the version? What is the meaning of it and how does this affect my watch behavior?

Maybe it's indicating that a newer firmware version is available?

Not completing successfully does not make sense for me. As I wrote in my top post, I installed fw 17.28 back in June (= more than 3 months ago). The asterisk for sure was not there all the time since June, I have noticed that today. Also when I scroll more down in the About screen, I can see the text "Host: 17.28 (f330a14)".

So obviously, the 17.28 software has been OK for those 3 months.

When was the last time you plugged your watch into a computer and checked for updates using Garmin Express?

The * indicates that at least part (if not all) of your installed software bundle is not correctly installed.

OK, this might be it, thanks for the clasrification.

I plugged the watch to PC and Garmin Express and then deleted the file GUPDATE.GSP, because I don't want newer fw at the moment, the problems of 18.xx are too serious for me.

As Garmin forces the update even if the automatic updates are switched off in the watch, there is no other option than this, after the wacth are synchronized with Garmin Express and there is a new fw available.
I did that many times before and never got an asterisk.
