Fenix 7 weather data permanently incorrect

As many others have already reported (see for example forums.garmin.com/.../weather-widget-does-not-work-for-our-state-or-towns-tirol-austria or https://forums.garmin.com/de/outdoor/wandern-und-handgerate/f/fenix-7-serie/330302/fenix-7x-wetterdaten-permanent-falsch?pifragment-1304 from the german forum) I also never received correct weather data in Tyrol, especially for the town Innsbruck and surroundings. Example today (23.01.2024, 21:00): -1°C current temperature (almost matches the actual temperature of 3°C), High: 17°C / Low: 11°C (doesn't match) and forecast for the next few days etc. doesn't match either. This means that the current temperature is close (at least today), but the forecast data is constantly 10°C to 15°C above the actual temperatures, not just today, but all year round. In Germany, on the other hand, it fits quite well in some places.

Unfortunately, I can't say whether the current temperature is always correct/close, as I've only looked at the high/low values on the dashboard so far and, as I said, they never match.

From my understanding, anyone in the world with a Fenix 7 Garmin watch (with up to date firmware) should be able to reproduce this problem. Just:

* set fixed location "Innsbruck" or "Innsbruck, AUT" or another city/village in the region

* Restart the watch

* read off (incorrekt) weather data

* and compare with the actual values (www.bergfex.at/.../)

For some other places in this region (like "Hall in Tirol" or "Mutters") the weather data is even more made up.

Has there been any progress on this topic? @Chris

  • The weather on a Garmin watch has become unusable anyway since the change in Beta 16.10 and its requirement for a constant BT connection to the cell phone.

  • It's something to look forward to for the non beta users. Sweat smile

  • I have exactly the same problem here in Innsbruck. Completely unusable high/low temperatures...

Quite sad for a 1000€ watch. Needs a fix soon - the competition is there...

  • Hello everyone,
unfortunately I have not been very active in this forum since my problem was not really solved. Unfortunately, the problem with the weather is apparently not so easy for Garmin to solve. I've been working on this with Chris from customer service for a while now. I would simply write to him. Also, if you search the forum, you can see that there are a lot of problems with the weather. In the past, there was often talk of application errors on the part of others in the forum or ‘everything works great for me’ messages, but unfortunately the reality is different. Here in Tyrol you can easily reconstruct this by simply setting the location and then you will see that the weather data is incorrect. My Fenix 7 is currently showing highs of 20 and lows of 9 - it's currently 3 degrees here (high for today from the internet is 10) - so it's way off the mark and bad for an outdoor watch, as I actually need it when I'm out and about. We also have a few weather stations in our neighbourhood - so it can't be that. Apparently the error occurs more often around the world than just here. My request - join forces with Chris from customer service and draw attention to the problem. And it seems to help temporarily to install a different weather app on the watch.

    Best regards

  • I have the same experience in central Czech republic. The current temperature is mostly correct or at least close enough but the forecast seems to be way off. Currently it tended to show much higher temperatures matching more with forecast for e.g. Prague which is like 400m lower and tends to have much warmer weather this time of the year than my region.

  • Same experience here in the UK, on FR 955. It incredibly annoying and forecasts almost Mediterranean temperatures whilst, the reality is lows of 0 degrees and less!

It's really really unacceptable and should be a priority for Garmin.

can you provide an update to your customers regarding this?

I am sorry to hear you are having this issue. For the Forerunner weather concern, you will want to post this on the Forerunner forum thread here: https://forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/running-multisport/f/forerunner-955-series
