Display quality on Fenix 7 Pro (Sapphire Solar)?

Dear F7 Pro users,
I am interested in a F7 Pro, but am unsure what the display quality is. I came from a F6 to a Forerunner 955 Solar. I was slightly disappointed of the display in the FR955, because the old watch had a better display (white was more white and not so much grey).

I looked at all the Youtube videos I could find, but haven't figured out if the F7 Pro really is an improvement. So I would be thankful if some Pro users could tell what they think.

My fenix 7x pro SS changes slightly at that angle, but I can barely hold my arm at that angle for more than a second when wearing the watch, so what difference does it even make?... lol

I mean who would even try to hold their wrist at that angle when wearing the watch?

  • This is the answer (backlight off from Chris) I never found on my search of displays. Day to day, I use an analog WF with only button-press backlight. I only needed the backlight outside .. I could see it fine in normal indoor lighting.

I also think it's clear that with the backlight on, th F7 pro is amoung the best MIP solar display from Garmin. But with backlight off is a step backwards.

I went from F6 to F7x Solar (neither are sapphire) and was very disappointed. For sure I need the backlight in many indoor situations and decided I needed to enable backlight (at 10%) via glances for everyday use. I still find it annoying to use the backlight, but at only 10%, it's pretty subtile.

I also got an Epix (47mm) non pro I've been swapping it with and think I'm going with it. I was initially extremely annoyed by the glances brightness, but have found it best in Always On mode with brightness glances off in everyday use. The ambient light sensor adjusts well and I pretty much only trigger the brightness in direct sunlight with a quick tap on the screen, but even that's not needed all the time.

Either display is fine for me during activities whether indoor or outdoor, light or dark as I'm not nearly as picky about backlight/brightness use then.

  • Thats the angle I get when my hands are on the wheel while driving. Also very often when I'm sitting on a sofa, or doing anything on a desk, for example

  • It's true that with the backlight off, for some reason the older MIPS displays were easier to read. The FR245 probably stands out as the brightest of all. I have an Amazfit Stratos+ with a sapphire lens. Its backlight isn't any good but without backlight its very bright/reflective.

  • Anyone having trouble with tiny marks on the sapphire crystal? Like wtf, I just got this thing. My epix 2 screen was perfect. This f 7 pro is easily scratched and now I'm staring at a frickin mark and I've been babying it since I got it last night.

  • That sounds like the anti reflective coating, there's been numerous discussions here regarding it being easy to mark. Can't say that I have on mine yet and my watch is now 2 years old.
