Dear all good morning!
Any news regarding ECG approval in Europe?
Update: August 23, 2024
At this time, ECG is not approved for Europe. Here are the countries that have ECG approved thus far.
As more countries complete their certification process through each government…
it should be clearly visible that this function will not work in the buyer’s country.
and Garmin should tell people before they check out.
They do!
don't know which country you…
but only for watches with the Gen 5 sensor. The F7S has never had the hardware.
Not yet. Here are the countries that have ECG approved thus far.
As more countries complete their certification process through each government, that country will get added to this Support Center article.
I'm in Canada, is there anything that users must do for Canada to start the certification process or is it initiated by Garmin?
Whether or not a Pro series watch has the ECG feature, is a country-by-country lengthy government agency regulatory process that determines if/when ECG will be allowed in your country.
This Support Center article discusses the United States clinical process to a small degree that led to ECG being released:
Hi, thanks for the quick answer but it doesn't answer my question. Must the users request through a government agency that the watch be certified or is it Garmin?
On a follow up question, if it's Garmin, has Garmin started the process with Canada already? If not, why?
Must the users request through a government agency
No.
if it's Garmin, has Garmin started the process with Canada already? If not, why?
I am sorry, due to being publicly traded, Garmin does not release information until either an official announcement is made by our marketing teams or the new feature or new device is released.
Ok, thanks.
Bravo! So I bought my Fenix 7s on false pretence. I'll return it then and revert back to Withings, whose Afib ECG has been approved in Europe for years. You should really point out to potential buyers that some functions may not apply for their region.

What false pretence? The Fenix 7s doesn't even have the necessary hardware for ECG readings. Only the Pro versions do.
