How do i delete golf maps on Fenix 7?

I read several discussions on this, and understand that I can delete map files in File explorer. However, my file names are different from what i have seen in the other discussions. Hoping someone can help me identify which files i can delete.

From Garmin Express:

I don't want these two; these are what i want to delete.

Other maps i have installed are:

so in theory, only 4 maps. But I have 7 files that look like map files. Can someone help identify them?

  • Hi Laurie,

    Thanks for your reply.

Like I mentioned, Garmin Express is not a great application to work with, at least not on Mac. When are the issue I mentioned going to be fixed there? It just needs to find my watch as soon as I plug it in and not take minutes to “find” it; it shouldn’t give vague error messages about files it didn’t clean up; and it shouldn’t make you disconnect and reconnect the watch after downloading a map.

    Thank you,

    Frans

  • Hi -

I too am perplexed by the inability to remove the golf maps from Garmin wearables and the fact that golf is baked into the high level menus in Garmin Connect. I never golf, never will, and I would definitely like more maps for activities that I do engage in regularly. I am a programmer and I can't imagine a technical reason for this to be necessary for the smooth operation of the devices or Garmin Connect services.

Someone at Garmin, can you please explain why we can't delete the golf maps and arrange things all around (wearables, Garmin Connect, etc.) so that we don't have to look at or engage with golf as a mandatory concept.

Even if there is a good reason, please seriously consider fixing it so that we can de-golf our Garmin experience!

Apart from this persisting annoyance, I'm a super happy (many, many device) Garmin customer for the past 30 years!

    Best wishes and thanks.

  • Curious, do you recall the file names of the maps that you deleted? I am sporting a Fenix 7s and have no use for the golf maps, but can't delete them in the Express app. The golf maps are taking up precious space on my 7s and would love to get rid of them. tia!

  • The file names seem to be inconsistent. Your best bet is to update them one by one, and after each update see which of your files has the most current date stamp.

  • I wrote it in another comment before:

As the filenames seem to change (increment?) with each update, my best advice ist to backup them all on PC, then look at them with a Hex Editor (HxD is good and Open Source). The "real name" can be found in the first few bytes of the file.

  • Well why can't you delete golf maps then. Why not provide an actual answer?
