How do i delete golf maps on Fenix 7?

I read several discussions on this, and understand that I can delete map files in File explorer. However, my file names are different from what i have seen in the other discussions. Hoping someone can help me identify which files i can delete.

From Garmin Express:

I don't want these two; these are what i want to delete.

Other maps i have installed are:

so in theory, only 4 maps. But I have 7 files that look like map files. Can someone help identify them?

  • Hey!

Try to look for the .img files with those sizes:

I had all three of them so you`re supposed to have one around 200+ MB and the big one 700+ MB (that`s the North and South America).

    I would say that:

D2471480A.img is a Course View for North and South America

D2419430A.img is a Course View Pacific, but you have to confirm sizes.

Ski Map on the other hand is around 33MB in size.

  • I would not delete the golf maps. Yes, it is possible to do this manually, but not in Garmin Express. And there is certainly a reason for that. In the corresponding threads, a Garmin employee also advises against deleting the maps.
It has also been shown that the deletion of the Golf maps can later lead to the "cannot verify maps" error, and the maps must then be reinstalled.

So yes, you can delete them manually, but possible subsequent problems are not excluded.

  • I removed them like a week ago and had restarted the watch multiple times since then. No issues with the maps loading during startup.

Anyway, I would advise to have a backup of those maps on your drive.

There may not be problems right away, maybe later. Maybe never. Who knows. However, it is recommended on the part of Garmin not to delete the maps. And Garmin has not implemented this option in Express. It must each decide for themselves.

  • Agreed, doing it at your own risk.

However reading the statements like the above from Garmin, makes me think that they`ve obtained some alien technology that they`re still trying to crack and get to understand... but most likely they have high attrition rate and the people who wrote the code don`t work for them anymore and they don`t know how to get around those basic limitations. Pathetic at this price range.

Your statement is wildly inaccurate and does not belong in our forums. Our watches and their software along with Garmin Express are designed around keeping all the maps updated on each watch. You are welcome to delete the maps you do not use on your watch. Never use Garmin Express again other than for a simple sync or the maps will get updated to your watch again in their latest versions.

  • Hi,

Thanks for the confirmation it`s safe to do so, some of us needed that clarification.

  • There are certain image files that Garmin Express will not put back on a watch. Which is why we recommend against map deletion and we always say to proceed with extreme caution.

  • I'm sure this has been requested before, but Garmin absolutely needs to have a question when setting up the watch that asks if you're a golfer. If you choose no like most people then it should hide all golf related options and remove the golf maps.

  • Absolutely agree. I don't golf and doubt I ever will. What i do (and what i mostly use the watch for) is hike. I find it disappointing that there isn't even a dedicated "hike" section in the Garmin app. To see my hikes, i can go to "all activities". But then I don't see the statistics that are shown for the activities that are specifically listed, like Run, for example.

I agree with what @jasm is suggesting above. Let is select our activities, and personalize how we use the watch.
