HRM Dual only partially connected?

for some reason the HRM Dual does not really connect to my Fenix 7x on a reliable basis.

Sometimes it does what its supposed to do: when starting an activity, there is a message on the watch, that an external HR is connected. And the optical sensor turns off.

But most of the times, that message does not appear and the OHR remains on (and also the HR is way off, so its clearly the reading of the crappy OHR), but still in the activity in Connect there is the HRM Dual as sensor listed with battery ok.

I already changed the battery to a brand new one.

So why is my Fenix reporting the strap as sensor in the activity summary, but is not using it during the activity?

It’ll be showing because at some stage during the activity there was a connection.
Turn off WHR before you start an activity next time. That way you can see what data is coming from the strap, or not.

There was not a single data recording without the WHR. No idea what the fenix was seeing. And as said, when there is no message before starting the values are way off all the time (as to be expected from the buggy WHR)

Are there straps on the market that provide a reliable connection and are even able to tell if the sensors have appropriate skin contact?

Mine works perfectly normal (7XSS on 14.36, Dual on 2.5). Maybe you got a faulty Dual. There are many posts related to Garmin HR straps (not just Dual) that behave strangely after changing the batteries.

damn i did exactly that just to make sure its not the battery... and since then its worse. Looks like thats the end for the strap when its out of warranty (already got a new one as replacement a while ago)

The ‘good’ thing about the dual is that you can replace the strap on its own quite cheaply and keep the module. The straps do wear overtime causing the connectivity to drop even when well looked after. I reckon I got about 18 months out of the strap before having to replace it. I still have the same sensor module but probably on the 4th or 5th strap.
I wish the same option was there with the other straps Garmin sells as once the HRM-Run, pro etc go bad they have to be thrown away and replaced completely.
Hmm, can’t find the replacement strap in the Garmin shop here but found it here www.fitness.net.nz/.../ On Amazon too

I always use these Polar Soft Straps with my HRM-Run (now 8 or 9 years old) The Polar straps last more than a year (daily use).

I got a new one for 15 bucks from Amazon today and its really working again, reliably. Thanks for the hint.

Its still a shame that Garmin doesnt communicate that issue, but everybody has to figure out by themselves somehow. But its the same for the OHR in the 7pro, its profen to be unreliable but Garmin still tells the oppostite whenever possible.

for some. and that is what Garmin's support information essentially says. And also what all other manufacturers will say. I jog/walked with two watches this morning on opposite wrists (not a good comparison check anyway) both on WHR. Can't complain at the output
