Can't Pair Fenix 7 Pro to Connect App

Just got my Fenix 7 Pro Sapphire Solar from Amazon and I can't connect it to neither my personal phone (Android 10) nor to my work iPhone14.

I put the watch to pairing mode (it shows a QR code which apparently only leads to the app in the appstore) and start the Connect app, choose my watch and then.. nothing. It shows me a list of troubleshooting suggestions, all of which I havce tried - except the last one, which expects the 6 digit number to have appeared already. The behavior is the same on both phones.

Now, the watch has been purchased in Japan. So I assume this is an APAC version. I did manage to connect the watch using the Garmin Express app and updated the FW to 13.22. That did not help.

The Phones are from Europe (Android) and Japan (iPhone) - I read somewhere that one needs a local phone in order to connect (why?)

Another noteworthy remark is, that the android phone actually detects the watch when I open the bluetooth settings while the watch is in pairing mode. Clicking it once, it tells me to use the app, but upon tapping it again, it seems to pair. The watch tells me it has been paired - but the app still requires me to pair it, so this is no help.

The iPhone doesn't seem to be interact with the watch at all.

I managed to connect all three devices with my earphones, so it is not a hardware issue, I suppose.

  • Never mind. After noticing that this watch is called "Dual Power" here in Japan, I managed to find a thread in the instinct forum. Contrary to what is stated when signing up for your garmin account, the selected region is not only used for "Privacy Regulations" but also restricts to what type of watch you can connect to.

In other words, after switching the region in the app/web interface and restarting the app, I managed to pair my phone.

Now @Garmin: When I selected the location I made the effort to read the "How is this information used" info, and it says nothing about restricting the choice of watches. Only privacy regulations are being mentioned, which is why I selected my home country, which I know to have rather strict privacy regulations. Since Garmin took the commendable effort to write an explanation, it would be great if that explanation was complete.

  • Thank you man, you save me. That's the ONLY place on internet where I found this information!

I just bought a new Fenix 7 pro sapphire "DUAL POWER", I spent the whole day trying to identify why was not identifying the device.

Nothing on manual, nothing on website regarding that....

GARMIN, WAKE UP, that's an annoying BUG, you made me lose too much time on it.

  • I bought one a month ago and managed to link it as you mentioned.

I am now in the NLs and didnt face any issues besides needing to update the European maps.

hows your experience so far with an APAC model in a different country? I also bought the 7s pro dual power sapphire

    thanks

  • This is the answer right here for me. It  had nothing to do with the name or anything. My phone has a VPN. When I made my account, it auto tossed my account into another country. I had to login to the site, go into my profile, and change the country. I'm assuming this block happens because it has some sort of region lock or something.

So that is your issue. If your Garmin, (mine specifically was the fenix 7X pro sapphire dual power) is not paring, you've updated it, synced it to your account, did everything that the troubleshooting guide says and it's not pairing still then its your Garmin account location. "
Mine was set to Japan, as soon as I changed the country region to U.S. it connected with no issue.
