Saved locations

Good day people. My 7x has lost. All saved locations. I cant add new ones and old ones does not sync with garmin explore. Software 13.22. Any one else has this problem. I cant see it on tha map or if you want to navigate to a safe location the list is empty

  • What can i do ?
    Should I ask a replacement ?

I do not know about the watch as it is still very new for me but i see my phone battery dropping fater than before recenty

  • Planning on buying new epix, I see a lot of posts about not being able to save locations from watch to explore app. Has this been fixed???

  • I see a lot of posts

I have not personally been seeing any pattern of posts for the issue. Researching our end, I do not see customers that have been reaching out worldwide through Product Support to report an issue. On a personal note for my own experience, I have not been having issues between my own Epix 2 and Epix Pro and the iOS Explore APP. I hike frequently and prefer using Explore to see a much larger map on my iPhone.

  • Thank you for the thread. When you read the entire thread, the issue was not the Explore APP but the current bug that is discussed within this thread. For the handful of watches out of the millions in use that have had the issue you are seeing in both this thread and that thread, it can be 100% resolved by a one-time full reset to defaults.

  • posts about not being able to save locations from watch to explore app.

No problem with it here. tactix 7 Pro Softwareversion 13.22 / Explore App on iphone.

  • Hi all,

I have also lost all my saved locations (about a 100 named ones) and cannot save locations anymore. Surely I get the "Location saved" feedback but nothing is saved. I have used this feature quite a lot for navigation and for storing exact locations in forestry work.

I am using a Fenix 7X SS with the currently latest (13.22) software.

As others are noticing, activities sync to Explore but waypoints (saved locations) are gone from the watch and new ones cannot be created.

Having read through this thread, and with my own experience of working with consumer software, my guess is that there's at least thousands of watches/configurations having this issue. Only a percentage of users with this issue are likely to report it in this thread. Others will not use the feature of saving locations or not notice, if they only have a few saved.

I am not very keen on the recommended "system reset" as I assume I will lose all my personal config in that operation.

As there's been no clear indication of "yes, we found the bug and have fixed it", I also suspect that the issue may re-appear even after a reset. Sure enough people say system resets and uninstalling apps helps, but as no bug has been found there's no guarantee that the issue won't be back in a month or so.

For now my watch will lack the feature of saving, and navigation to, locations. I will wait until Garmin explains what causes the loss and have a fix for it before I go on and threw away all my settings.

(the positive thing with GPS coordinates from my Fenix 7 is that they are really accurate. Anything from e.g. an iPhone is not at all as good. I've tested several times to compare the position I get from my Fenix 7 to a satellite map. Like if I am standing on a small rock that is clearly visible on a satellite map and I get my position from the Fenix 7, it will be spot on that rock when I later map it to e.g. Google Maps. That's the reason I've used "save location" a lot when I need exact locations)

  • Several people here have reported having this issue and the only thing we read here is that the solution is to reset the watch (an Epix Gen2 in my case). So why should we reach out to Product Support? They will tell us the same… reset the watch. And that is really no solution, since we loose all our watch settings. I am a software developer myself and if I would have to tell my users to delete everything and start all over again, I would be ashamed. We need a patch to enable saving locations on our watches again, without having to reset it. This is just poor customer service.

  • Good luck, Garmin hasn't been able to recreate the issue. And as crappy as it sounds I did the reset and it hasn't happened again yet. Fingers crossed because the reset doesn't change anything.

  • I will wait on the new firmware that contains a backup feature of the watch settings. I wonder though if after a reset of the watch and restore of the settings, the ‘save locations issue’ will not return. We will see…
