Has anyone been able to compare map detail of trailfork maps between Fenix 7 and Epix?

I will be using for MTB only and don’t need routing with turn by turn directions.. I just want to be able to glance down at watch when I come to a trail junction instead of having to pull my phone out.

In the reviews I’ve seen using the standard non-trailfork base map it looked like the epix showed more detail and trails at a given zoom level. Curious if that is still true using the trailfork maps.

I’m the odd duck that actually prefers the dimmer screen of the Fenix as long as the trailfork trails aren’t being hidden due to lack of resolution.

I honestly have no idea what trailfork maps are, this is the first I'm hearing of them.

I thought Trailforks was just a feature that shows the name and distance to the next trail intersection, I'm not aware of any trailfork specific maps or what they would do

Trailforks is a mapping system built specifically for mtn biking and other off road trail sports. You can install the trailfork topo maps and turn off the existing Garmin base maps. It’s a great system that provides color coded ratings for trails based on difficulty and other factors. I think Garmin started the integration just a couple years ago.

I thought it was just on the Edge units and not epix 2?

They recently added it to some of the watches as well.

Trailforks & Garmin

Trailforks says Edge and supported watches... then says fenix and forerunner. It doesnt mention epix

The ConnectIQ store has epix gen 2 as a supported device.

My f7 and Epix watches have TopoActive maps which include Mt Bike trails, at least in my area. My Edge 830 includes a separate Trailforks map file. How TopoActive and Trailforks maps differ, I don't know. But they are certainly different map files.

The CIQ app (compatible with watches) is to transfer routes and doesn’t include Trailforks maps (which are only on Edge units)

You can manually load the separate Trailfork map files on both watches. I’ve seen it done on both watches. Just have never had a chance to see them side by side to compare map detail.
the edge units of course do this as well which you can manage through the app. The watches you must load the base maps manually as the app only lets you load trailfork routes.

I don't think you can. I think the Trailforks map is locked to the device (Edge). I tried coping the .img file to an Epix and the mapping layers don't show up.
