Fenix 7 sapphyre vs nonsapphyre screen

had fenix 6x sapphire. never again.

now i have fenix 7x solar but non sapphire.

i use a tempered glass protector which i think is better than diamond. the sapphire coating starts to peel off after a while, and the screen isn't that bright, I don't see any advantage in using a sapphire screen.

Note that the forerunner has 2 layers less. No touch layer and no solar layer.

The Sapphire Solar must be viewed in special angles to minimize reflections for the eye, the much cheaper Forerunner has a crisp and clear display under any angle due to its antireflective coating. 

Wonder why Garmin doesn't apply a good a/r coating to their most expensive watches.

Hi. From my experience both sapphire and non-sapphire are dim when read indoors; the difference is absolutely minimal. Side-by-side comparison is not actually relevant, you will read non-sapphire just a bit better, but it is still annoyingly dim in general use indoors. I think the ease of reading difference which really matters when making a decision is between MIP Fenix and AMOLED Epix, not between sapphire and non-sapphire versions of the same watch. The difference is more visible outdoors because there is a lot of natural light to be reflected by the sapphire coating, while indoors, especially in the evenings, both will look similar.

The biggest issue with the non-sapphire version of the Fenix 7 line is that you also have to give up 16Gb of storage and multiband GNSS. If you really want to go non-sapphire and keep a MIPS display you are far better to change to the FR 955 so you can at least keep multi band GNSS

Well I remedied the situation by buying a basic Fenix 7. The difference in readability is, granted, small but enough that it doesn't annoy the crap out of me. So I'm happy now. I'm not bothered by the downgrade in storage and multiband.

The difference is not only in display quality (well the display itself is probably the very same; it is multi-layer design with sapphire, solar and touch panel while having the display sitting deeper in the bezel that makes it mirror like). The user environment is also huge downgrade. Fenix 6(X) has black font on white background in menus and configurations. It is much more adjusted to the HW design.  There is now new AMOLED display in Fenix line (just labeled as EPIX) and they imho has common source code (the beta update package via a file was the same for both, although now it is separate). The menu is now white font on black (to save power on AMOLED, I guess). Therefore the display is pain to use... especially if you make the mistake a keep the Fenix 6(X) and switch it on again :D
