why do contour lines now show when I import a map from AllTrails?

importing maps for trail running from AllTrails. when I import to my Garmin, I can see the route but it doesn't show the contour lines, trail map, or waypoints. it's like a bunch of data is not carrying over from AllTrails. I am downloading the GPX file. anyone had success importing AllTrails maps?

A gpx file is not a map, its only a track/route. In the watch these tracks are called 'courses'. You can start such a track by start navigating a course in your watch.

Not all maps on our watches have contour lines. In my case I had to add it to my watch. You can search fo contour lines file for your specific country then add it to your watch. In this way you will have contour lines shown.

so contour lines have to be downloaded separately? what about the complete trail maps from All Trails? as Matthias said, it's just the route coordinates but doesn't bring in detail like contour lines or other trails
