Fenix 7 display timeout option removed?

Hi All. This issue has been driving me crazy and I cannot seem to locate any reference to it being removed? It appears that Garnin has removed the option to timeout the display in the Power Manager / Battery saver / edit settings with the latest 11.28 software update? Why??  This was available before the update because this is how my watch was set for daily use. Now the option has disappeared? Can anyone please confirm or am I missing something here? I’m aware you can add a custom setting in power modes but this is only available for activities not for general use? All that appears to be available now is the option to dim the display only, it will not switch off to a blank screen even if I set “backlight / turn off “? Thanks in advance for any advice.

  • I think it might be different answer for question why it was earlier and gone now.
This setting definitely looks like settings for AMOLED devices like Epix and as Epix and Fenix share same software maybe somebody just didn’t set proper flag for this feature (let’s say „option enabled on Epix”) and now they just corrected it.

But yes, it is worth to ask Garmin support directly.
And maybe somebody having Epix could tell us how these options looks on their devices.

OK. On my Epix you can make the screen blank specifically for general use and it's what I do. After timing out, the display goes blank.

System >> Display >> General Use >> Always On Display: Off

If AOD were on, the display would just dim and change to a minimal watch face (date, time, battery %)

  • backlight timeouts rather than display timeouts

That’s because the F7 doesn’t have a Display option. That’s on the Epix. The equivalent for the F7 is Backlight. AFAIK the only option to turn the backlight off is in the Battery Saver power mode.

  • The OP specifically said that he had previously had a display time-out option which actually blanked the screen, so my reply to you was only an inference that it wasn't what the OP was looking for.

The OP says that he can find no reference to the function being removed; similarly I can find no reference to the fact that it was ever there. All of the manuals for the watch with earlier software versions show the same menu options as in the extract I posted. Having said that I'm happy to believe that the OP has indeed, with firmware 11.28, lost some functionality that he previously had.

As is obvious from this forum in general, many users have entirely different experiences from others.

  • It’s always the way. Of course it never crossed my mind to take a screenshot of this option that was previously available when it was available because I had no knowledge at the time that it would be removed or would ever be an issue. As mcbit points out, I also cannot find any reference to this option ever being there in any of the manuals which is frustrating. I can advise that it took some time initially figuring out this workaround and I can assure you that it was there because this is how I set my watch and used it daily for general use. I was able to speak with someone today from Garmin support who advised that this issue had already been reported. They also advised that they would log my report and, fingers crossed, it may be rectified in a future update. We’ll wait to see what happens. Thanks for all the advice and I’ll certainly report back with any further updates from Garmin.
