Fenix 7 display timeout option removed?

Hi All. This issue has been driving me crazy and I cannot seem to locate any reference to it being removed? It appears that Garnin has removed the option to timeout the display in the Power Manager / Battery saver / edit settings with the latest 11.28 software update? Why??  This was available before the update because this is how my watch was set for daily use. Now the option has disappeared? Can anyone please confirm or am I missing something here? I’m aware you can add a custom setting in power modes but this is only available for activities not for general use? All that appears to be available now is the option to dim the display only, it will not switch off to a blank screen even if I set “backlight / turn off “? Thanks in advance for any advice.

  • Timing out the display doesn't really matter with MIP display technology. MIP displays don't use any power for as long as the display image is static. That means that normally a watchface would use a tiny bit of energy only once per minute when the display is updated. The backlight does use energy, but displaying pixels without backlight does not until those pixels need to be flipped.

  • Thanks for the response silentvoyager. Perhaps I should have also advised in my post that battery drain is not really the issue. I listed Power Manager / Battery saver / edit settings in my post because that is where you could enable the display timeout feature for general use. This was the only way you could achieve enabling this option for everyday general use. I realise I have also used the ‘battery’ tag in this post. Apologies for any confusion. In a nutshell I just want the option to timeout the display so it is blank which was previously an option but appears is no longer an option with the 11.28 update? Thanks again for for response / advice.

  • This is a new one on me. Thinking I wasn't aware that was ever an option, the only time I've seen a blank screen on mine is when it was off. This extract from the August 2022 manual ( so pre 11.28 ) also doesn't list it as an option.

  • Not sure it was ever there but there is a display timeout setting for each of the three options in Settings, System, Backlight.

  • Those are each backlight timeouts rather than display timeouts. If the backlight times out you still have a display.

  • I don’t know we talk about the same thing, but on my watch it is still there:
Settings > Power Modes > (Mode you want) > Display > and here you have "Always ON" or "Time Out”
Backlight time out is still in: Settings > System > Backglight, with three options „During Activity”, „General Use” and „During Sleep”.

  • Thanks for the response but it unfortunately it does not address the issue. The response from mcbit is correct. The display is still visible. Here is a screenshot from the batter saver edit options in my app. There is no display timeout option. This was previously there. I would select this option and then enable battery saver. The display would timeout and go blank after my selected timeframe. I could wake the display with a wrist gesture before it would timeout and go blank again. This option is now missing since the 11.28 update. Your answer as you have outlined is correct in a sense that those options are there but you cannot timeout the display for general use (the option is not there in general use) thanks again for your response though.

  • I will repeate, you are looking for it in wron place, now it is here in app:

    On watch is the same.
Only what I don't know how to change is time.

  • Yes thank you. Now how to you enable for general use? You certainly can use this power mode and others for activities but unless I am missing something here how do you select a specific power mode for everyday general use? I.e no activity activated? Thanks again.

  • Correct, power modes only available during activities.
